On this day in Three Stooges history, Three Little Pigskins was released!
Considered one of the more physical shorts, this was the first time the Stooges refused to perform a stunt. Despite pleas from director, Raymond McCarey, the trio decided to opt out because the football players in the short were actual college players. The studio found three stunt doubles, who ended up getting seriously injured during the scene. Moe was quoted in his autobiography saying that, “McCarey was speechless and sat in his director’s chair with his head in his hands.”

Premiering three days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, it was the last short released in 1941. The shorts title is a self-contained pun since “Samoa” can be pronounced similarly to slurring “some more of.” Fun fact: several continuity errors can be seen throughout the film, mainly regarding Curly leaving the king’s hut covered in flour.
