What is repentance to you
From a theological and philosophical perspective, repentance is a profound and multi-faceted concept. It's not just a single action, but a process of transformation. Here's what repentance means to me:
1. A Change of Mind and Heart:
The word "repentance" comes from the Greek word metanoia, which literally means "a change of mind" or "a change of thought." It's not just about feeling bad for something you did; it's a fundamental shift in your thinking, your perspective, and your values. It's a turning away from a mindset that leads to wrongdoing and a turning toward a new, more righteous way of thinking.
2. Acknowledgment of Wrongdoing:
True repentance begins with honest self-reflection and the humble admission that you have done something wrong. This isn't about wallowing in guilt, but about taking ownership of your actions and their consequences. It requires courage to look at your own flaws and mistakes without making excuses.
3. Sincere Remorse (Regret with Action):
Repentance goes beyond simple regret. Regret can be passive ("I wish I hadn't done that"), but remorse in repentance is active. It's a deep, heartfelt sorrow that motivates you to change. It's the kind of remorse that makes you say, "I never want to do that again."
4. A Turning Away and a Turning Toward:
This is the "active" part of repentance. It's not enough to just stop doing the wrong thing. You must actively turn away from it and turn toward a new, better way of living. This involves making a conscious decision to change your behavior, your habits, and even the direction of your life. It's a 180-degree turn.
5. A Process, Not a One-Time Event:
Repentance is often talked about as a single event, like a conversion experience. But more often, it's a lifelong process. We all make mistakes and fall short. Repentance is the ongoing commitment to course-correct, to learn from our mistakes, and to continually strive to be a better person.
6. Seeking Forgiveness and Making Amends:
A critical part of repentance, especially in the context of harm to others, is seeking forgiveness and, where possible, making restitution or amends. This shows that your change of heart is genuine and that you are committed to repairing the harm you have caused.
In summary, to me, repentance is not just a religious ritual or an act of self-condemnation. It is a transformative journey of the mind, heart, and will. It is a courageous act of humility, a profound turning away from error, and a committed turning toward a better, more righteous path.
Be blessed 🙏

In Kenya, we used to have a mandazi known as KDF. For those unfamiliar, mandazi is a type of doughnut without a hole in the middle. This particular mandazi earned the name KDF (Kenya Defence Force) due to its ability to keep the stomach full for hours.

In fact, eating three KDFs was nearly impossible—just two with tea would keep you satisfied for half a day. It was thick, heavy, and sweet.

The KDF mandazi became very popular, and the inventors made serious money from it. However, after some time, the producers began reducing its size, followed by a decline in quality.

Nowadays, it's no longer worthy of being called KDF because you can eat five and still feel no impact. There's a Kiswahili proverb that sums this up perfectly: When a brewer is praised, they dilute the brew.

The same principle applies to many aspects of life. When we start to do well, we often lose focus on quality, believing that people can’t do without us. This happens in relationships, too.

In the beginning, we put our best foot forward to please our partners, but over time, familiarity sets in, and we stop caring as much. Many people have lost their partners because of this complacency.

In business, the pattern is similar. We start strong, then neglect customer satisfaction, focusing solely on making money. What we forget is that people leave first, and then money follows.

Right now, no one talks about KDF because better mandazis have emerged. We should learn to behave like an antelope that eats with its head up, aware that predators are always lurking.

Someone is always eyeing what you have or what you do. Always strive to remain a KDF—consistent and valued.
