From building the ATLAS detector in the Large Hadron Collider to managing the system that distributes CERN's data to a global network of scientists, this series introduces some of the work being undertaken by the world-changing Particle Physics Experiment group in UofG's School of Physics and Astronomy.

Researchers from the University of Glasgow and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University in India have developed a social robot to encourage handwashing among young children.

The robot helped pupils at a remote Indian primary school take a fresh approach to hygiene. Hand-washing is one of the most effective defences against the spread of diarrhoea and respiratory infections, which cause the deaths of around 1,300 young children each day around the world – 320 of which are in India alone, according to figures from WaterAid India and the World Health Organisation.
