🗺️ Enugu on the map.

I grew up in Enugu, and my grandfather was a coal miner there.

The hills you see here are the Udi Hills, where coal mining helped shape the history of the city.

Enugu is still known as “The Coal City.”

👇 I’m curious:

Have you ever been to Enugu, or do you have family from there?

What memories do you have of Enugu or the Udi Hills?

She called herself "Igbo-adjacent."
Her mother laughed. Then went very quiet.
This week's episode of Igbo Daily Drops was born from a moment that so many diaspora families will recognise.
A brown padded envelope arriving from Nigeria.
A hand-woven Akwete wrapper unfolded with ceremony.
A fourteen-year-old daughter putting her phone down and asking —
"Mum… what does akwa mean?"

There is an Igbo proverb at the heart of this episode:
Onye mara ezi akwa, ọ malụ eziokwu.
The person who wears genuine cloth knows the truth.
When someone is impeccably dressed, they are respected and taken seriously — what they say is accepted.
In Igbo life, cloth is not vanity. It is testimony.

In today's episode of Igbo daily drops you will learn three sentences that build a whole home in your mouth:

🧵 E nwere m akwa — I have clothes.
🍽️ Ọ nwere efere — She has a plate.
🏠 Anyị nwere ụlọ — We have a house.
Three things. One verb. Everything that makes a home yours.

👇 Two questions for our community:
1️⃣ Did you grow up speaking Igbo — or were you raised Igbo-adjacent like Chisom?
2️⃣ What is one thing your parents passed down to you through cloth, food, or language?

Share your story below — every answer builds this community. 🙏🏾

Last year, I lost both my parents in the space of five months. My world stopped — and so did this channel.

I thought I was ready to return, but grief doesn't run on a schedule.
I'm back now — gently.

This week, we're starting with Foundations Week. No pressure. Just three sentences a day as we rebuild together.
For those who waited, daalụ. For those just joining — Nnọọ, welcome home.
