It’s in the poem you wrote over your morning coffee. It’s in the free-style dance moves you wiggle out while you’re roasting your bagel.

But it isn’t just in the things we DO; it’s in the SPACE we create. It’s in the Special Somethings we COLLECT (if ya know, ya know 😉)

"Art imitates life." It's a simple phrase, but one that holds a lot of truth, at least in my own creative practice. One quick glance at my Meraki Monday sketchbooks shows just how in-tune my sketching ideas are with the unique circumstances around me. My sketches often reflect the changes in weather seasons and seasons of life, my current inspirations and the Special Somethings I find. Todays Meraki Monday sketch is no different. This weary and worn little fox is a pretty good imitation of my own physical and emotional state. I could chalk it up to spending the last five days down with influenza, but that wouldn't be the whole story...

In truth, I'm weary across the board. I'm weary of being sick this week, sure, but on a broader scale, I'm weary of living in a chronically ill body that doesn't play by any normal set of rules. I'm frustrated with how fragile I am and how one "normal" illness can set me back weeks. I'm weary of the lack of direction, and frankly, the discouragement in my business. I'm weary of feeling behind no matter how far I seem to get. Over the past year I've felt like I have no clue where I'm going and no clue where I WANT to go. It's probably naive to say, but I really thought I'd have more things figured out at 23 than what I do. There are many other things that contribute to the Waves of Weariness, and I'll be honest, it's very easy to let yourself get lost in them.

But today, as I sat reading my Bible, I was reminded of something incredibly important. My hope is not in my health. My hope is not in my career. It's not in my finances, in my friendships, or even in my creativity.

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." (Hebrews 10:23)

My hope is in Christ, and Him alone. It is HIS strength that upholds me, not my own. Throughout all the illness, throughout all the frustration, throughout all the discouragement, He is still faithful and His promises are still true.

The Waves of Weariness will come, and yours may look different than mine. But I can tell you with full assurance that without the anchor of hope, I would drown in them. And by His grace, I haven't.
