AI & machine learning is transforming every industry, including healthcare.
Join me in my video series “Code to Care” as I explore how AI is shaping the future of medicine and patient care. I discuss how this technology works, its use cases, and the ethics + safety concerns of the tools.
This new technology shows a lot of promise, but it needs to be carefully understood and tested before healthcare systems roll it out at scale. There is a balance between AI’s potential and responsibility in patient settings.

Should you use a proprietary or open-source AI model for your newest application?
That’s an essential question for healthcare organizations looking to adopt AI.
My latest Code to Care video is the first in a two-part series to help you evaluate both options. Let’s start with the basics in part 1 first.

Healthcare AI isn't about replacing human decision-making. It's about enhancing it. That's why we need humans in the loop.
Consider Baystate Health’s solution for triaging patient portal messages. The healthcare system uses a specialized model developed by @InterSystems to assess messages and flag those that may need urgent attention. This helps staff sort and process the most pressing issues, ensuring timely care for patients when they need it most.
This enhanced workflow aligns with our commitment to prioritizing ethical, safe, responsible, and effective AI. When advanced technology augments human potential, better outcomes follow.
Leave a comment and let me know: What decision-making process could benefit from this kind of human-AI partnership?

If you think your experience training machine learning models has prepared you to train generative AI models, think again.
.In my newest Code to Care episodes, I'll describe three common training strategies. In my next 3 videos I will do a deeper dive into the 3 strategies mentioned.
Let me know what you think about them in the comments!

How can you improve decision-making accuracy from 75% to 95.1%?
The answer leverages groups and applies to leadership and artificial intelligence — two of my favorite fields.
I cover the solution in my latest hashtag#CodetoCare video. Here are the basics.

“Yes” or “no” questions seem simple, but they can have profound consequences in healthcare. Is a patient portal message urgent? Will insurance deny this claim?
Machine learning can help us find the right answers. But building this kind of machine learning model requires making one of the trickiest decisions in model development: setting the threshold.
I review the process in my latest #CodetoCare video.

When an emergency department physician treats a patient, they’re writing notes on a napkin at times, not the EMR. In this video I am explaining how can AI help them get those notes into patient records faster.
This is a really interesting use case for AI as it’s a mix of two different AI models: A vision model to convert the image to text and an LLM to write a structured note from the text.
Looking forward reading your comments!
