A second attempt at spearfishing, but this time, with @thedrysuitlady I uploaded a full video to Patreon, but here are the highlights. - At this point in February, I was still struggling with my gun and was nervous to dive with it. - As such, I did not shoot anything. I literally didn't even see a fish that I could've tried to shoot. - I did grab a uni and attempted to capture a lobster. - I didn't fully cry or have a panic attack while preparing the meal. - The lobster was actually quite delicious. Funny story, I was trying to grab the lobster left-handed and missed twice. The second time it got away, it swam right into Katie, so she nabbed it and put it in the bag. It's called teamwork 💅 Thanks, Katie, for a wonderful adventure, as always 💙 #spearfishing#freediving#pescatarian#lobsterseason
It’s actually wonderful, calming, inspiring, and life-changing. But loads of people are scared of scuba diving so let’s cover why it’s not such a scary sport. 1. Scuba diving is highly regulated and standardized worldwide. Training agencies have strict safety protocols that focus on prevention and risk management. 2. Divers are trained to handle problems so they don’t become emergencies. Skills such as mask clearing, regulator recovery, and controlled ascents are practiced repeatedly during the Open Water Course. Each skill builds on the previous one, so complexity only gets introduced once you’re comfortable with the previous step. 3. You’re never alone. The buddy system means someone is always watching out for you and ready to assist, if needed. 4. Modern dive equipment is extremely reliable and built with redundancy. 5. Serious incidents are rare. When divers stay within their training, maintain their equipment, and follow basic guidelines, scuba has a strong safety record. Most accidents are actually related to preexisting health issues rather than scuba itself. Finally, if you are scared but want to try it, find an instructor who makes you feel comfortable, calm, and heard. There are loads of us out here in the world, so do your research before signing up for a course.
Before, during, and after. My cockpit was a soggy mess before I left for Mexico. My friend and boat neighbor helped rip off all the soggy wood. Then, while I was gone, he and a buddy fixed the holes in the fiberglass and added the Kiwigrip nonskid. Upon returning from Mexico, we installed the new stern railing, I popped on some new solar panels, and we installed winches. It has been A LOT of work, but I’m super pleased with the results so far. I would not be making this much progress without Jeff’s help. He has done major ocean crossings, and I think at first he was worried about me and my plans, but now I think he’s just fascinated by my drive. Next up on our little group project will be an autopilot and dinghy davits... @Hydrovane 👀 #boatlife#sailboatlove#sailboatliving#pugetsound#scubadiver
