Charles Wright, an influential songwriter and recording artist, emerged as the leader of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band in the late 1960s. Born in Mississippi, Wright's Southern roots influenced his blend of soul, funk, and blues. He began his professional music career in Los Angeles, where he merged with the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, and signed with Warner Bros. Records. The band's success included hits such as "Do Your Thing" and "Express Yourself." After disbandment, Wright embarked on a solo career exploring various musical styles. Wright's artistic evolution and philanthropic endeavours continue to inspire a new generation of musicians.
