Shark Attack in Abacos: Why Woody Gives DAN an A+ for Their Response!

DAN has reworked its processes for Abaco, Bahamas since Woody’s incident. They reached out to Woody and Gus to thank them for bringing the issues surrounding Woody’s previous Abaco DCS incident to the forefront. This effort helped DAN get an injured diver, who suffered a facial injury from an accidental shark bite while spear fishing, from the first call in Abaco to a U.S. hospital in under 7 hours. Hear the details as Woody is interviewed by Dr. Doug Ebersole about this incident and the processes DAN initiated to achieve this remarkable evacuation without any glitches.

🎉 Attention Dive Talkers! 🎉

Get ready for an epic event that you won't want to miss! From Saturday, July 26th to Saturday, August 2nd in Roaton at the Dive Talk 2025 meet up, Woody Alpern will be “co-leading” a Dive Talk GO maintenance seminar with the legendary Mike Young. But here’s the kicker: Woody will be demonstrating maintenance on Gus’s unit (because he wants to "improve" his unit and make sure its “well taken care of”), while Mike will juggle the finer points of doing the maintenance on Woody's unit. Talk about a plot twist! 😂

We’ll announce the specific evening for this side-splitting workshop at the meetup, so stay tuned! If you own a Dive Talk GO, you’ll be doing the maintenance on your own unit with us guiding you step by step. But remember, Woody is the only one doing maintenance on a different unit—lucky Gus! And for some unkown reason, he's graciously allowing Mike to handle doing the maintainance on his (Woody’s) rebreather.

Even if you’re not the proud owner of a Dive Talk GO yet, everyone is welcome to come and learn from these two “expert(s)!” Mike is positively thrilled to have Woody “co-lead” this workshop, and Gus is just thankful Woody will be “taking gentle and precise care of” his precious unit.
Btw, this is the first Gus is hearing of this so think of this Gus as a “happy Father’s Day present” from Woody. I will even be bringing my tool kit (which consists of a screw driver which i think is the “phillips” kind).

There are still a few spots available for this epic meetup trip, where you can attend what should be an interesting “co-lead” maintenance session as well.
