EXPIRED MEDICINES💊:MYTH vs REALITY😱
Many people assume that once a medicine reaches its expiry date ,it instantly becomes toxic or completely ineffective. The reality is more nuanced.

MYTHS❌:
Expired medicines become poisonous the day after the expiry date.

REALITY ✅:
Most medicines don't suddenly turn toxic after the expiry date. The expiry date indicates the period during which the manufacturer guarantees the medicine's full potency, safety and quality when stored correctly.

MYTHS ❌:
Expired medicines work just as well forever.

REALITY ✅:
Overtime many medicines gradually lose their effectiveness .While some may retain much of their potency beyond the expiry date ,others can degrade significantly, leading to reduced therapeutic benefits .

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION 📌:
•Potency may decrease after expiry.

•Storage conditions (heat, humidity , sunlight) affect stability.

•Certain medications are more sensitive to degradation than others.

•Expired medicines should not be relied upon for the critical condition where accurate dosing is essential.

THE TAKEAWAY 📌:
Expiry dates are not arbitrary - they are based on scientific stability testing. While expired medicines are not necessarily dangerous, using in-date medicines remain the safest and most reliable choice to ensure optimal treatment outcomes.

As a healthcare professional, educating patients on the proper use ,storage and disposal of medicine is just as important as prescribing them.
