Dear Fu Bao fans,

About the newly appeared nanny Pan Chao in Fu Bao’s yard recently — you can watch this documentary, The Chronicle of Fu Bao's Birth, for more background. Nanny Pan appears during the following time segments in the video: 6:08 - 6:13, 7:04 - 7:20, 8:06 - 8:15, 11:38 - 12:04. She used to be the nanny of Huan Ni (Ai Bao in Korean), Fu Bao’s mother. Although she wasn’t physically present during Fu Bao’s birth, she was deeply concerned and emotional — even brought to tears.

Also featured in the video are Grandpa Jiang, Grandpa Song, Keeper Wu Kai, and Keeper Xie Qingyang. This documentary never gets old — each viewing brings new feelings and insights.

The giant panda Sheng Yi(升谊) made her debut at Beichuan Giant Panda Zoo and Botanical Garden(北川动植物园) today, June 28. Her neighbor is the male giant panda Wang Wang(网网), who was born in 2005 and returned to China in November 2024 after a 15-year stay in Australia. Both the indoor and outdoor enclosures are spacious and newly built, featuring soundproof glass, ice beds, and other well-equipped facilities. Currently, there are only two giant pandas, but there may be new neighbors in the future. Wishing both a happy and healthy life in their new home!

Recent Photos of Panda Cub Xin Qiao

After being separated and rejected by his mother, Mei Mei, the 8-month-old panda cub Xin Qiao has faced repeated attempts by the caretaker team to reintroduce him to Mei Mei or place him with another panda mother, only to be met with rejection and aggression. To ensure Xin Qiao’s safety and proper nutrition, his caretakers now provide him with milk, bamboo shoots, and other varied foods daily. They also spend time playing with him every day.

Currently, Xin Qiao’s energy levels, activity, appetite, and digestion are all normal. However, the wounds from the earlier rejections still require care and healing. Due to his current condition, he is not yet suitable for public display. Let’s all wish Xin Qiao a healthy and happy growth!

Update on Fu Wa and Feng Yi from CCRCGP

At 19:10 (Beijing Time) on May 18, giant pandas Fu Wa and Feng Yi, who had been residing in Malaysia, safely arrived at the Ya'an Bifengxia Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP), accompanied by experts from both China and Malaysia. They will undergo at least one month of quarantine at the base.

Born on August 23, 2006, at the CCRCGP, Fu Wa and Feng Yi were sent to Malaysia’s National Zoo on May 20, 2014, as part of a 10-year international cooperation program celebrating the 40th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations. As the first giant pandas to reside in Malaysia, their lively and adorable personalities quickly made them beloved animal stars, significantly enhancing cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Originally set to conclude on May 20, 2024, their stay was extended to May 20, 2025, under a transition agreement signed in 2024. Over the past 11 years, the CCRCGP and Malaysia’s National Zoo have collaborated closely on panda breeding, disease prevention, public education, and personnel exchanges, continuously improving giant panda conservation efforts.

During their stay in Malaysia, Fu Wa and Feng Yi successfully gave birth to three cubs—Nuan Nuan, Yi Yi, and Sheng Yi—all of whom safely returned to China before August 2023 and are currently in good health.

To ensure a smooth return, the CCRCGP dispatched a veterinary expert to Malaysia in advance to assist with behavioral training, health checkups, and daily care, accompanying the Malaysian team in escorting the pandas back to China. The Ya'an Base has made comprehensive preparations, including quarantine facility maintenance, environmental disinfection, staffing, food supply, and healthcare, to ensure a smooth transition.

In the future, Fu Wa and Feng Yi will gradually be reintroduced to the public. Updates on their lives can be followed through the CCRCGP’s official platforms.

Additionally, China and Malaysia will launch a new round of giant panda conservation and research cooperation within the year.

Official Update on Fu Bao's Vomit

On the afternoon of May 12, the giant panda Fu Bao showed symptoms of vomiting. After careful observation and preliminary clinical assessment, the vomiting is likely related to roundworms.

Vomiting caused by roundworms is a common occurrence in the management of giant pandas, and there are individual differences among pandas. The panda center typically performs internal deworming every two months. It has been two months since Fu Bao’s last deworming.

Currently, Fu Bao is still in a pseudopregnancy phase, and her appetite has significantly decreased. She has also lost interest in apples and other foods she usually enjoys, making oral deworming more difficult. Staff are closely monitoring Fu Bao’s health and will administer supportive care as needed.

Please rest assured that Fu Bao’s condition is being carefully managed.
