Thought I would show you this. Youtube has a brand new feature called test and compare, allows you to upload up to 3 different thumbnails for 1 video, and see how they perform. Some viewers get shown thumbnail A, others see B and C. Then as the test goes for 2 weeks it shows you the watch time performance. Ie- how many viewers clicked on the thumbnail then watched. The thumbnail with the highest percentage is the best thumbnail.
The latest video actually has 3 different but similar thumbnails, and all of them are sitting on 33%!... so what does this tell me? a couple of things... 1) the thumbnails are similar enough that my audience will either consistently click or not click, 2) spearfishing and diving fans aren't that worried about the thumbnail quality!.
And I believe the later is true because when you look at the thumbnails produced by other creators in the diving community... most of the thumbnails are the drizzling shits... but the vids still sometimes get lots of views. So people who watch these videos are more forgiving of shitty thumbnails than other types of viewers on Youtube.

Hey Kaimoana fans, part 2, the next Kaimoana video is available right now for members. Joining is cheap, $1 a month. Otherwise, you'll have to wait till later to see the video.
For anybody that's wondering where are the dive videos... well unfortunately the vehicle gods have frowned upon me, upon coming back from China, my car (The gold Mitsubishi SUV you may have seen in my videos) needs $2000 of repairs to get warranted. Since I'm not in the financial position to buy another car I'm having to pay. Already paid $1150 for suspension repairs, now today it's 2x new tyres and a wheel alignment, another $580. Then sometime in the future another $400approx for new Oxygen sensor so the engine light stops coming on.
Man tyres got expensive over the last 5 years. I got 4x new tyres 6 years ago, with a wheel alignment, and it was about $600 then. Now you pay that same price just for two tyres. Inflation much?
On the upside I am hoping to buy the new boat real soon (possibly next weekend), I have money set aside to buy that, so as I've been saying, it's a late start to the dive season for me. And just like I said in my 1 hour long "big dive talk" video, there is a big financial barrier to entry to participate in spearfishing. And the fact that you're not seeing new Kiwi Kaimoana videos right now, well this is part of it.
I'm getting 2x new tyres today because 2 tyres are so badly damaged from going out of alignment I don't feel safe driving the car any long distance. And yesterday was the start of season event in Akaroa that I missed out on because of this.
Anyway, I'll get there eventually, but man, things are costing me some serious money this year.
Just wanted viewers to know, the Kiwi Kaimoana inflatable boat and outboard will be up for sale in a few days. I'll be posting it here and a couple weeks later on trademe. $4500 for boat and 15hp outboard. Approx $1000 extra for trailer. Will make video in a few days with further details. But just incase any viewers want to buy it, you'll get the chance this winter. Want to get a head start? Keen? Message me via the Kiwi Kaimoana Facebook page.
Looking to buy 2nd hand boat for diving in future, still saving up, some ideas... Tell me your thoughts and feelings on boats for diving. Has to be able to fit into single garage.
Traded in the tohatsu 9.8 and bought a 2nd hand Parsun 15hp, the 9.8 just too damn slow. You'll see the 9.8 have it's final run in the next Akaroa dive video with Chris.
