Evening chat,

I usually don’t do community posts this late, but there’s a first time for everything. Or more accurately, a last time, because that time has come: I’m quitting. Effective now, I’m ceasing all projects and disabling monetization on the entire channel.

This is something I should have done at least two years ago. The passion for the channel has been dying as far back as 2022 before the JFO video was released. Not only do I not enjoy content creation, I don’t even enjoy playing games anymore, and I finally need to face facts: this chapter of my life is over, and it’s time to move on.

I’m sorry to anybody who was looking forward to more content, especially the videos that were in development for several years. The truth is, they will never get made, and it’s time to stop lying to myself about that.

Thank you to everybody who has watched and enjoyed my videos over the years. They will remain public for you to come back to whenever you want, but I won’t be active in the comments anymore.

Good morning chat. No April 1st jokes today, just a genuine update: I’m back to working on the video (slowly but surely) and have actually been enjoying it for a change, so that’d a great sign.

The script is about ~65% recorded and the video is ~30% edited. I’ve been doing these both to give me a break from trying to record the entire thing at once, which is the biggest motivation stopper.

So, I’m sharing the most recent ~20 minute bit that I got done over the weekend, which includes the introduction for the story section and the tutorial zone. This should be public on the subscription feed now.

Hey gang, I hope your new year is going well! Take a seat I’m about to make it worse.

Tl;dr: Shrimpie needs a break, and not a “I’ll put off working on my stuff but constantly stress about when I’m going to get back to work” break like I did in 2023, I mean a REAL break.

Instead of dropping an essay, I’m going to list my reasons and address some big concerns below:

1.) Am I quitting: no, unless I decide that not coming back to the channel is what’s best for me.

2.) I have lost the ability to enjoy games unless I’m with friends. Another creator and friend of mine is in the exact same boat so we are choosing to step away from making content and just play games for fun again

3.) I want a life. I don’t want to spend every day behind my computer. I want the freedom to go to the gym, explore writing music again, and play games with friends whenever I want, and I cannot do that while stressing over how long it takes to get a single video done.

4.) I have two projects in active development that I want to finish, but they are not a priority.

So, when will I be back? The short answer is “whenever I don’t hate my favorite hobby anymore.” I want to love making videos again, so I need to give myself the space needed to recover from the toxic relationship I’ve developed with my channel, then come back with stronger boundaries to keep it from happening again.

That’s basically it. 2025 I going to be a FANTASTIC year for my life, but not for this channel.

Hey guys, quick update:

Once again, mental health has not been the greatest (we’re making progress, but I’m told things have to get a lot worse before they start getting better, and boy do things feel worse than they’ve ever been, if not complete rock bottom as of this weekend). I haven’t made much progress on the Ragnarok video, but I did start a smaller project that I’m trying to make headway on.

I wouldn’t expect a new video anytime soon, since I’m trying to prioritize resting and recovering. As always, I’m not looking for pity or sympathy, I just want you guys to be informed about what’s going on.

I’m not dead, and neither is the channel. We’ll get through this, and here’s a picture of Sushi as payment for your patience:

Looks like it's time for a quick (if premature) New Years announcement:

I've been a little out of the loop with YouTube's policies, so it looks like as of last month, they changed the way that monetization works. I can no longer disable ads such as skippable, unskippable, or pre and post-rolls (but I can still manually choose where my midrolls appear, thankfully). They have also decided to keep all ad settings for old videos as I left them (at least for now), so this hasn't even affected my channel yet. This probably isn't news to you guys who keep up with YouTube's shenanigans, but it was to me.

This is important, because as of 2024 I was going to start taking monetization on the channel more seriously. I decided back in 2021 that I didn't want to treat it as a job because my actual full-time job was so taxing. Well, for a little transparency, I took a really big pay cut to get out of that job. I'm not struggling, but I'm feeling it, so I'm starting to look at the channel as something I should take more seriously (not explicitly for the extra income, but that doesn't hurt). I know I can do more for the channel, and I'd like to at least try.

Well, it looks like YouTube isn't giving me a say: the videos will be monetized more heavily, or they won't be monetized at all. It's no longer a choice, it's just a coincidence that I began thinking about this a month after this policy was put into place.

At this time, I will not be relaunching the Patreon. At the very least, that won't be until after the Ragnarok video releases, but I'd still like to wait until I've hit the 5,000 or 10,000 subscriber milestones to feel like I've earned it. I have to at least prove to myself that I can keep my end of the deal before I ask anybody for money.

So here's what this means for you: I am going to keep an iron grip on my mid-roll ads (I like to space them out enough to not be annoying, and only place them during breaks between sections). If you get swamped with ads at the start of the video, then I'm sorry. I literally have 0 control over that.

If you took the time to read all of this, then thank you. I really hope I'm able to improve my upload schedule to at least 3 or 4 videos per year (quarterly uploads would be great), but there are a lot of variables between my standards of quality, and my current job often having mandatory overtime during those same periods. Regardless, I'll try to make it a good year for the channel.

Ragnarok was a little easy on New Game++, so we’re going to play something a little harder tomorrow. I don’t know what it is yet, but it will be more difficult.
