I think, therefore, I review. I am currently reviewing all the episodes of King of the Hill and South Park. All art is done by Honour Harry, at honourharry.com
Wow! The 100 Questions video has been getting a lot more positive feedback than I had anticipated. Big thanks for all the kind comments and to everyone for giving it a shot.
It really motivates me to keep my nose to the grindstone and working on content. Expect to see the next video soon (I'm spending today recording the lines and cutting out the flubs...of which there are many).
Also, enjoy this Kingdom Hearts picture of Luanne I found online a few months back. I've been trying to find a good place to drop it a video but couldn't find one. Big ups to the OG artist!
A new video, "100 IMPOSSIBLE King of the Hill Questions and Mysteries" is available RIGHT NOW for channel members and will be fully public on Thursday (10/23).
It's 44 minutes long (technically 43:49) and was surprisingly fun to make! Preview images attached.
Oh, and expect to see the next video coming out quite soon...
A new King of the Hill video: "The Ten Worst Things That Happened to Hank" will be available on Friday (10/3) for channel members and for general viewing on Monday (10/6).
This video was originally intended to be a Youtube Short.... but I couldn't keep the video under the Shorts time-limit, so I went ahead and made it into a full 20-minute video.
Expect about 3 or 4 more of these general essays to drop before returning to the regular episode reviews. Thank you for your patience!
In "High Anxiety, Part 2" Hank says, "Debbie bought those flowers just before she died."
I always took this to be a misdirection joke, where we're supposed to think that the coworkers bought her mourning flowers, only to reveal that she bought them for herself... but what if she was planning on using those flowers in memorandum for Buck, in an effort to show how much she was "grieving" over his demise, all to throw suspicions away from her?
If so, then her plot to kill Buck wasn't simply a spur-of-the-moment crime of passion, but the final step in a series of calculated moves that she'd been thinking about for god-knows how long.
You wanna know how WEIRD the current Youtube algorithm is? Even though I've uploaded 1 normal review and 4 Youtube Shorts (about to be 5) in September, I'm on track to get about 40 FEWER subscribers than I did in June...which was 2 months deep into my 4 month hiatus.
After 60 days of zero videos/posts, people were still finding my channel and kindly deciding to see what would happen next.
But somehow I'm performing worse now, uploading actual content, then I did when I wasn't posting AT ALL. This sort of thing has never happened at any point in the last 2 years.
I was fully prepared to admit that my South Park videos were either ill-made or just not the right fit for my audience...but judging what I've been hearing around Youtube, it looks like something larger is going on.
I'll know for certain when I start posting King of the Hill shorts in 10 days. And even more certain when I get back to the regular KoTH reviews after this Shorts experimentation month. If even that stuff under performs, then something has really gone sideways.
Now I want to cling to KoTH as tight as I can, cause everything else is getting bled dry.
Yet, I don't think this is anything you guys can help with, as I've gotten comments from people saying they didn't know I posted South Park videos. Stuff is either being hidden or not presented at all.
Today is the first day of an experiment I'm doing.
I'll be posting 1 short every day, for 30 days. The shorts are all 3 minute each (Youtube recently upped the limit from 1 minute to 3), meaning we'll get an hour-and-a-half of content.
The first 13 will be reviews of The Simpsons and the following 17 will be King of the Hill related...although not episode reviews, merely character study stuff or answering general questions about the series.
After these 30 days are up, I'll get out 3-4 more regular King of the Hill reviews, which hopefully will perform well thanks to the shorts content (theoretically) bringing more folks in.
After those 3-4, I'll take stock of where I'm at and see what people have responded to.
As a reminder, a major reason why I've been experimenting with The Simpsons/South Park at all is because Disney hit me hard with a flood copyright claims on my last KoTH video, which took a full month to get resolved. Not easy to feel confident after that.
If they really dig in their heels then KoTH production would majorly slow down...which would be very bad and not anything I could really do anything about.
I'm even nervous posting KoTH shorts, as I don't know how the big D will respond. Might not be able to get those out if they really don't want me to...
Apologies for the mess and the delays (and this big post). I'm just playing the cards I'm dealt.
My channel view with Restricted Mode OFF vs. with Restricted Mode ON....LOL
Maybe this is why my South Park videos didn't do that well in August, pfft. Good thing I didn't get any form of notification about whether my content is restricted or not...siiiigh
Reminder to check to see if your Youtube account has been set to "Restricted Mode." If you click on your channel's profile picture (in the upper right of the web browser) and then look just below the "Language" setting, you'll see if your account has been set to Restricted.
A lot of big Youtube channels are currently dealing with viewers not seeing their content because of Restricted mode. It's not as simple as, "you won't get certain videos in your subscription feed," you won't even be able to see restricted videos ON THEIR CHANNEL PAGES! Restricted videos will be literally impossible for you to see if that mode is turned on.
One of the other review channels I keep an eye on normally gets about 400 k views, but a recent video of theirs struggled to get over 40 k because it doesn't show up in Restricted Mode.
Hope Youtube fixes this system cause it's really hurting the viewers' experience and channel owners!
So! Because my subscriber numbers have been a bit stagnant, I've decided to spend some time making a batch of Youtube Shorts, which tend to reach wider audiences. Specifically, I'll be reviewing the first season of The Simpsons as Shorts and then doing about 15-ish King of the Hill Shorts.
The KoTH ones won't be reviews, but more about general topics, things like "5 Worst Things That Happened to Hank" and "Is Peggy Hill a Genius?"
I'll be uploading a new Short every day for 1 month, starting on the 15th (or the 12th if you're a Channel Member) and I will also be working on the next full KoTH review during this time, which is already scripted.
Watched "Altered States" (1980) for the first time tonight. Ended up being more heartfelt and saccharine than I anticipated. Not a bad thing, just surprising for a body horror flick.
Intense, a little all-over-the-place, and very trippy. Watch it sober though, or you're going to have a real bad time.

Crackpot theory:

An interesting thought to ponder...
