We will be doing a livestream for Mikayla's Celebration of Life this Saturday the 12th starting at 11am central time. The stream should be broadcasting on Facebook, and YouTube. We wish you all could be here in person, but logistically that just isn't possible. But we hope you are able to watch from afar, and be present in spirit! Mikayla's mother was kind enough to cover all the costs of the livestream setup, as a thank you to everyone that supported her mission.

And of course, thank you all for your continued support. None of this is possible without you.

❗ Urgent ❗ foxes in horrible conditions need your help!
I was contacted from a fellow sanctuaries Foxes Journey Sanctuary & Felix Foundation Fox Sanctuary and Rehab!

She was standing here at this place, to rescue some foxes. But she didn't have any space to take on these two foxes shown in these photos.
And with so many foxes I'm trying to get out of our current fur farm, the last thing I needed was more foxes. We are at such a financial strain! 😭

But we said yes, only because thankfully Foxes Journey Sanctuary can take them back OR two of our fur farm rescue foxes when she is ready.
There is two foxes still left at this farm.

But these two are in ROUGH shape. And we really need your donations.

It costs 90k a month to operate our sanctuaries and most weeks I spend 10 hours a day towards fundraising, it's really putting a strain on my mental health. But without making these important posts, we don't get donations.

SaveAFox is a 501(c)(3) non-profit domestic wildlife sanctuary. All donations are tax deductible. EIN 82-3454531
We are a USDA licensed facility

❗Back Story❗
A man was breeding these foxes to sell. Illegally. He held no permits DNR or USDA.

He put these foxes on his mothers property they’ve been there for a few years (3-5)

Then he and his mother had an argument and he left the property and abandoned them with his mother.

He actually tried to release them all and she stopped him but 2 did get out and have never been found or spotted so probably not alive any longer.

These foxes especially the ones you have, have lived in these tiny cages for their whole lives. She said he got them all when they were pups.

They were basically being feed, and made sure they were alive.
The waters clearly were full of green algae, literally massive piles of poop and dried dog food underneath each cage. There were maggots all over.

Education with Esmae fox

None of the foxes in our care, have ever been wild, and are unreleasable.

All the foxes here were bred in captivity for various purposes, and their family’s have been in captivity got 50 plus years. Due to this they are vastly different physically and mentally than wild foxes.

The foxes have come from fur farms, seized from bad situations, and are even surrendered by families who bought them to be pets.

If these foxes (or any domestic foxes) were released, they would not have the proper skills to survive in the wild, and unfortunately even if they did survive, it wouldn't be good. They would interbreed with wild populations introducing unnatural genes to the wild foxes. These domestic foxes carry colors that are unnatural and they also carry genetic diseases. With these introduced to the wild populations we would see a drastic decline in foxes, and it could even possibly drive certain threatened subspecies to extinction.

These foxes must live their life in captivity. There is no other option.

Introducing fur farm rescue fox Skye.
She only has a couple options with her current life circumstance, which I will explain within this post.

Option 1: Spent 10k on surgery

Option 2: Euthanasia. If this ends up being her only option. We will give her a chance at freedom with a large run of a fox yard before having to put her down 😔

Option 3: Find a sanctuary that can take her on along with the expense...this may be hard to find. We currently are having a hard time even placing healthy fur farm rescues in sanctuaries.

We can't afford the surgery with so many animals still at the fur farm that we are raising funds to get out. Unless we magically get a huge donor, but even so the surgery isn't always a 100% success.

Skye has suspected Keratoconjunctivitis. There are two types, one where the inflammation and discharge from the eyes essentially forms a pretty solid crust over them entirely, and the other where it presents the way Skye currently is - with little to no tear production, discharge, massive inflammation and excessive pressure to one or both eyes.

Skye had a 0 on her Schirmer tear test for her right eye & 3mm on her left eye.

She has lots of inflammation in both eyes, including the sclera

Treatment options:
Twice daily topical eye medications; this would not work for her, as she is not handleable unless under anesthesia. The stress of daily handling without it would not be a good quality of life.

Salivary gland transposition surgery, can have complications, including calcification which requires reversal

Implants placed in both eyes, which again can require replacement, and/or removal from complications.

The salivary gland surgery is typically the more successful and long term of the two in canines.

They want to recheck her tear test at minimum in two weeks.

She has also had one (likely) stress induced focal seizure.
