Ok... I'm most likely going to upset some people with this, but hear me out...
Disclaimer: the following is based on my experience at the track, but I do not have any data to prove this, so take it with a grain of salt.
Since I first started making Nürburgring videos back in 2013, I've noticed that (in my opinion) the speed on the Nürburgring during public driving sessions (Touristenfahrten) is getting more and more extreme.
Where 10 year ago, the TF session looked like 75% actual tourists on track and 25% "experienced" or fast drivers, today it is at least the opposite. Porsche 992 GT3RS-es are as common on track as a Volkswagen Beetle was back in the '60s. 95% of the drivers during TF are season card holders and although it is officially forbidden to have a laptimer during TF, nearly everyone is doing it and posting it on socials.
"Real" tourists that drive the Nordschleife for the very first time are often too scared to drive in between cars that pass at 250+ km/h and don't even dare to drive on the left side of the track, because you will get high-beamed by drivers competiting for the Golden Pineapple award.
Unfortunately, with this increase of speed, the crashes that happen also seem to be more severe.
Even though you won't be able to find any crash videos of the big Nürburgring channels anymore, that doesn't mean they don't happen anymore. The amount of crashes might not have increased, but I do believe the severity of the accidents has increased.
Again, I don't have any data so this is entirely based on my gut feelings and experience.

Back in 2015, the track temporary introduced speed limits to reduce the risk of accident in certain sections (after the Nissan GTR accident). My honest opinion is that, during public driving sessions, it would make sense to reïntroduce speed limits. There is no need to drive above 250km/h to have fun, perhaps not even above 200km/h.

It's official! Starting this season, motorbikes are NO LONGER allowed to participate during public driving sessions (Touristenfahrten) at the Nordschleife!
Motorbikes are only allowed on the GP track.
