I can't afford the Bearwalker Red-Eyes Black Dragon guitar but I can definitely admire from afar! We're at C2E2 this weekend, by the way!

Sorry for the lack of videos the past week! We're finally doing duels again and trying to catch up on all the different products we've gotten this year. So working on duels with Legendary Modern Decks and also a duel between 3 copies of each Chronicles Deck (Branded and Charmers). And of course, theme duels with Bonz' Pumpking and the new Dark Magician cards. Unlike some older duels, we're also trying to practice a little more with sealed products so we're more comfortable with the cards and can hopefully deliver a better quality final video. Thank you all for your patience! πŸ™πŸΎ

I attended the Rosemont, IL regional yesterday playing Rescue-ACE with the new Burst Protocol cards. With 366 players, we played a grueling 9 rounds. I managed to end with a 7-2 record and got 30th place, which earned me my second invite of 2025-2026! Thanks to all of the many fans I met! It was fun talking with everyone. My next regional should be at Indianapolis on March 21st!
PS: Quick Attacker and Arbitrator suck! πŸ™„

Two common misconceptions some people have about me are: because I often critique Yu-Gi-Oh, it must mean 1) I hate the game and want to see its demise, and 2) I don't actually play Yu-Gi-Oh or am any good at it, so my opinions must be invalid. Neither assumption is true. ❌

I've literally played Yu-Gi-Oh since the beginning. Playground, locals, regionals (going to another one this weekend, wish me luck), YCS and all. I've been a TO, a Judge, a writer, and a commentator. Play an unhealthy amount of Master Duel every month. Buy too much merch. Even worked with Konami on a thing or two in my time. I've experienced the highs and lows of this game and franchise and I'm happy to report I'm still playing to this day with no intentions of quitting!

As much as I love it, though, I can acknowledge that there are plenty of issues with Yu-Gi-Oh. It's got a reputation for being a hard game to approach, power creep has played a huge role in the game, and the products haven't been performing too well in card shops over the last few years. I'd say these are pretty undeniable observations, but some people get quite upset or defiant whenever they're brought up.

I think a lot of players take criticism of Yu-Gi-Oh as some kind of personal attack on their identity and livelihood, especially when it comes from someone they deem to be an outsider. And to be fair, there are sometimes outsiders or former fans who come in hot with criticisms that aren't fully informed or made in good faith. It's the internet, after all.

But I'm always genuinely surprised to hear people think that I want to see the game fail. I'm a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh who has played and covered the game for the most of my life. What good would something like that do for me or anyone else? I'm not rooting for failure so I can score some shallow "I told you so" or anything. I would hope that we all want to see Yu-Gi-Oh thrive.

Remember that it's perfectly fine, normal even, to have mixed or complicated opinions about the things you enjoy. And it shouldn't come as a surprise when other people do, too. A little bit of grace and understanding for our fellow duelists goes a long way! For better or worse, we're all in this community together. ❀️

Today's video is delayed because of Youtube copyright claims (we've been using a lot of anime clips in the discussions lately, and this next video is pretty heavily anime focused). In the meantime, I'm happy to share that I got lucky and pulled 2 Dark Magician of Destruction in the new Maze of Muertos pack, so we're going to put this deck together and do a theme duel soon!

Over the years, one of my most persistent goals with our YouTube videos is to encourage people to THINK about Yu-Gi-Oh. Think about the reasons why you like it, the nuanced ways you enjoy it, the systems behind it, and even the parts you loathe the most. I don't want to ever explicitly tell you people how to feel about the game. Rather, I want to just get us all thinking and hear what conclusions you've come to about Yu-Gi-Oh yourself.
