The Sacredness of the Day of Ashura

Did you know that the 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, is one of the most blessed days in the Islamic calendar?

It was on this remarkable day that Allah saved Prophet Musa (Moses) عليه السلام and the Children of Israel from the tyranny of Pharaoh.
When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ arrived in Madinah and saw the Jews fasting on Ashura, they explained that it was the day Allah granted Musa victory.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"We have more right to Musa than they do." He then fasted on that day and encouraged the Muslims to fast. (Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
The Prophet ﷺ also said:
"Fasting the Day of Ashura expiates the sins of the previous year." (Sahih Muslim)
SubhanAllah! One day of sincere fasting can be a means for Allah to forgive the minor sins of an entire year.
To distinguish the Muslim practice, the Prophet ﷺ intended that we fast the 9th and 10th of Muharram, or the 10th and 11th, if possible.
This Ashura, don't miss this incredible opportunity.
Fast, increase your du'a, read the Qur'an, give charity, remember Allah often, and thank Him for His countless blessings.
May Allah allow us to witness Ashura, accept our fasting, forgive our sins, and fill our hearts with faith.

Transliteration
Allahumma adkhilhu 'alayna bil-amni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-Islam, wat-tawfiqi lima tuhibbu wa tarda, Rabbuna wa Rabbukallah.

Meaning
"O Allah, bring this month upon us with security, faith, peace, Islam, and success in doing what You love and are pleased with. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah."

"O Allah, make this new Hijri year a year of guidance, forgiveness, barakah, good health, beneficial knowledge, accepted deeds, answered du'as, and closeness to You. Aameen."
