Britain to Beyond

A family trying to leave the UK — and documenting the real struggle to escape the
system!
I’m Richard, a dad of two, home educator, and lifelong DIY learner.
At the start of the year we made a big decision: sell everything, leave the UK, and build a
simpler life somewhere warm.
It hasn’t been easy.
Delays, solicitors, housing problems, non-stop rain, the pressures of home educating
neurodiverse kids... it all hits at once. And the UK systems make it harder, not easier.
This channel follows our journey as we fight to get out:
• selling the house
• dealing with broken systems
• preparing to move abroad
• teaching our kids real-life skills
• fixing what we can ourselves
• and trying to stay sane along the way
If you’re thinking about leaving the UK, homeschooling, learning life skills or just following a
family trying to break free, you’re in the right place.
Hit subscribe and follow the journey — the highs, lows and frustrations as they happen.

Britain to Beyond

A sneak peak of our new accommodation we have moved to this afternoon, a fitting location with amazing view to end our many years of living in Cumbria. We are nearly ready to go, just a few jobs yet to tie up so we can chill a bit here and enjoy the views and contemplate how far we have come and the fantastic life we can build from here on! 😊
And the best bit...its our cheapest stay yet!

Britain to Beyond

So tomorrow I am posting my last finance video, what I earned as a self employed forester and machine driver last year, what my household earned and what it cost for me to work and to run the house.
This is just a small part of our reason to leave the UK, watch to the end to find out if it is possible for a family to live on one average income in the UK now.
How do you earn? And does it allow you to have holidays or a break throughout the year? We had nt had a holiday abroad for 7 years is a clue........

Britain to Beyond

I always get asked why you are leaving the UK and it's mainly to live freely as a family away from the pressure cooker of modern UK life. But a part of this is also financial. I worked as a self employed forester, a life choice not really a career for making your fortune. But it's what I did and loved.
Tomorrow's video goes through our finances, what our household brought in, my costs to work and the costs of running our house.
This will be hugely different from what most people see. We lived frugally because we had to, we have never been extravagant. We lived a life of self help and self repair.
Was it possible to live cheaply on a low wage? Yes it was, were we always on the edge financially......most definitely.
Last year we had a holiday abroad, the only way we could afford it was to downsize my work caravan. That was our reality. We had not had a holiday abroad for 7 years but that holiday kicked started us thinking.
So overall it's all possible but really was not a sustainable or particularly enjoyable way to live so we decided to make a drastic change.
Enjoy. 🙂

This is the weather in the NE of the UK at the moment. We rarely got snow in Cumbria, the West side when we lived there so it's a nice change!
I am however still in shorts 🩳......early preparation for our ✈️!

Walk on the beach at Runswick bay today with the kids to find some fossils. found a few things mostly squashed Ammonites but we did find what I believe is an eleganticeros ammonite. Always amazes me these things are millions of years old!

Good morning, happy winter solstice! We are not religious and have decided not to do all the commercial aspects of Christmas this year as it's just getting too much. However we enjoy all the sights, sounds and some tastes that I believe hold the magic. Being aware of the seasons changing and how nature reacts is where we are at, especially as being in nature certainly calms my neurodiverse mind and my daughter's. So enjoy today and if you have a stone circle or henge near you there will be something going on there!
Remember that if your feeling overwhelmed and down that you can overcome them, a bit like this tree growing around this rock. We had have overcome many problems to start our new life a d you can too. To new life on winter solstice!

Today while running around clearing the house we managed a few hours at a place called brick station, where you can build Lego kits! Jasmine chose an airport which is very fitting! Sage chose a frozen castle (which I built 🫠).
You might be able to see where we are going on the globe.........
