Game Mastering, like life, is full of pitfalls and challenges, many fall short of our expectations. Just deciding to be a GM can be a challenge as you are, in essence, a manager. Many newb's make common mistakes, some learn from them, some don't. World Building and character development, NPC creation and proper monster control. In addition to my views on this, I am facing challenges that are results from mistakes of my path. From living homeless to doing right by those who I failed in the past. We grow or we don't, and unless we make the effort, we learn nothing from our mistakes.

I have long been a fan of 'how and why' we play; why we love Role Playing Games and War Games as much as we do as a hobby, and for deeper reasons. So here is a great channel and video worth viewing, in my opinion. You might learn a thing or two you didn't know you wanted to know, heh!

Your Seat At The Table
This would have been taken in the RV during the winter of 2017, probably February. We switched from the kerosine heater to a Big Buddy heater for the winter of 18'. Squeaky was mom's old cat, whom we inherited after mom passed.
Many of the early videos were shot at this table in the 30-year-old RV. In late 16' there was some radical changes in my life that led me to sleeping in a borrowed station wagon until the wife and I could come up with the money to buy the RV. Mom's sudden death made this even more important as Bren and Squeaky joined me while we delt with mom's estate and selling her house which took way longer than it should have, if the realtor my sister had picked hadn't been determined to sell it for any low bid that came along. I had to explain it to him that we would not take less than the tax's stated value. Period.
I bought the RV the last week of December of 16' and oddly enough, we took possession of our first house the last week of December of 18', and have been here ever since. The RV is gone and Squeaky's passed away, but the memories remain.
So, my friends and associates, fellow gamers. When things aren't going so hot, take a moment to consider just how bad they really can be. Be grateful; be appreciative of those around you who show they care.

And for new Game Masters....
I suspect most of you know what I am talking about here. That very few systems have an entry level or 'simple/KISS' entry for a would-be GM. I wonder why this is?
Think of all the conventions and techniques that experienced players expect and demand from their GM's. Knowingly or not, 'we' put a lot of pressure on anyone choosing to play the GM role at the table, and while most systems do give some limited examples or concepts, they fall woefully short.
Consider how many would-be GM's become overwhelmed?
We talk about about the how's and why's of why people, why 'we' play, but since we're all experienced we tend to become jaded and as Players and GM's, are we falling a bit short on this? Has the hobby in general, been guilty of doing the same thing? Of leaving the new, would-be game master's to bumble and stumble and try to 'figure out' what to do or, at a minimum, where to look for advice.
Just wondering what your thoughts are in this regard.

So the author of Project Zhukov got wind of the video, next thing I know I've got a dropsthip of PDFs inbound. At a glance, they promise a lot more of the good work and awesome art found in Project Zhukov. Gonna be a bit before I get them read and covered, but as you can see, we're a step closer.

So, as a few of you may have heard, I am poking my way slowly through creating an updated version of my would be game that'll be worthy of putting on RPGDriveTru. Well, the current chapter I am working on relates to the portion of the system that allows you, the would be players, to conduct interactions like negotiations, interrogations, and investigations - (Investigations also has another part but we'll skip it for now).
Since this game is Solo Play first and foremost, the system has to reflect that, meaning that we truly want reactions and responses that are not 'picked' by us; otherwise, if your going to dictate what the NPCs think and do, then well, never mind...
In this specific exercise, we're looking at creating a small chart that hosts a range of 'personal feelings': those sort of gut instincts and knee-jerk thoughts that all people have. Then, of course, we moderate or enhance the rolls, which are based on a d100 percentile system by adding various modifiers that we deem are appropriate for the genre and game setting, and germane to further uses of the above system. i.e. modifiers aught to serve a purpose or originate from a common sense position.
Example: Amber Carbara, Minister of Health and Sciences for House Volo, as part of her skill set, has ranking in social interactions gaining her a +20 to any interaction that takes place in a social setting such as a party, ball, or other group event.
For a base, I figure there aught to be ten possible responses. If more are needed we can adjust accordingly, though there reaches a point where simple seeming adjustments can be really complex. Tis true...
Anyway, ten ranging from anger to something...
Aghast... Surprised... Confused... Interested...
01-10 - Aghast
11-20 -
21-30 -
31-40 - Confused
41-50 -
51-60 - Surprised
61-70 -
71-80 - Interested
81-90 -
91-00 - Excited
Six more terms to figure out for our chart. Another thought popping into my head has to do with 'intent or purpose of this event'. Meaning, to me, there are different sorts of interactions. Hostile negotiations and friendly interrogations comes to mind. So we may want to replicate this chart for several different tracks. The rolled responses would be case appropriate.
Hostile, General, Friendly Negotiations, for example.
I'm open to any suggestions, comments, and questions... This chart will be appearing in the latest version of the game, IYC.

Give this video a listen and ask yourself, "Does YouTube need an Angry Dwarf rants his/her way through the Monster Manual? I think we do. Anyway, give Dungeon craft your opinion, it'll be a hoot.
