We recently had the incredible opportunity to engage with students at ‪@CEPTUniversity1‬, where Lernik Mirzakhanyan and Aditya Agarwal presented ‪@beegraphyplatform‬ to students learning computational design.

These sessions were part of the Codin Edu series, focusing on cutting-edge topics like:

1. Generative Design + Sustainability: A parametric approach to performance-driven architecture.
2. Intelligence | Aggregation | Architecture: Exploring resilient floating communities.
3. Binary Block: Innovations in printing assemblies with clay.

A big thank you to the CODIN team - Saifiz, Nora, Ayush, Divya and also Vaishal Patel (CEPT) for having us and their insights during these sessions.

It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm and innovative thinking among the students as we demonstrated the possibilities of computational design with Beegraphy.

What are Normals in 3D modeling, and how to use them?

"Normal" is a term you’ll often come across when creating 3D models. Normals are like arrows that indicate the direction of different parts of an object.

They allow:

Control how an object is shaded and how it reflects light.
Move an object in a specific direction.
Control the orientation of geometry and achieve a more realistic appearance.

You can use Normals in BeeGraphy to create parametric models. Just double-click on the canvas, type "normals," and choose the node you need.

Here's a brief introduction to BeeGraphy if you're not familiar with it: BeeGraphy is an online parametric design platform created to solve problems such as difficulties in collaboration and accessibility. With its free node editor and cloud-based technologies, the platform makes teamwork and easy access to your workspace possible.

How to learn computational design?

🖥️ Learning computational design combines theory and practice to understand how algorithms work and experiment with different tools.

Common ways to gain theoretical knowledge are:

- Books
- Case studies
- Youtube videos
- University courses
- Computational design forums

Common ways to gain practical knowledge are:

- Mimicking educational videos
- Testing new approaches
- Initiating a project and solving problems
- Working in a group and sharing insights
- Revisiting your earlier works and making improvements

🌐 The best way to learn computational design depends on your goals and skills. Among popular computational design strategies, today is parametric modeling, which uses visual nodes and parameters to represent operations instead of writing code.

If you're interested in learning how parametric modeling works and want to practice it online for free, check out BeeGraphy. Visit beegraphy.com to find more information.

At BeeGraphy, we regularly publish tutorials that can help you master computational design, with a particular focus on parametric modeling. You can see the videos on our YouTube channel at youtube.com/@beegraphyplatform or go through our previous Facebook posts.
