A Call for Accountability and Protection for Black Ontarians

On May 3rd, 2025, an anti-Black hate crime was committed at Toronto's Exhibition Place in response to online backlash sparked by a racist attack on a 5-year-old Black child with autism in the United States. This hateful act, which aimed to support the individual responsible for the dehumanization of an innocent child, has incited deep fear and outrage within the Black community.

Despite the severity of the incident, there has been no public response from Toronto Police Services or the leadership at Exhibition Place. This silence sends a chilling message to Black Ontarians—that their safety, dignity, and presence are not protected or prioritized on public grounds they support every summer.

Black People United for Change is calling on Exhibition Place and local authorities to break their silence, condemn this hate crime, and take immediate steps to address the safety and concerns of Black families. The community demands action, accountability, and assurance that anti-Black racism has no place on these public grounds.

We will not remain silent.
