With over 15 million records, 13 x ARIA Awards, an MTV VMA, a BRIT Award and billions of streams under their belt across more than four decades, Crowded House has been on an evolving, winding journey. Crowded House’s hits like “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strong,” combined with albums like Woodface and Together Alone, set the standard for the period’s erudite jangle-pop while always pushing the band’s art forward.

2021’s first full-length offering in eleven years, Dreamers Are Waiting, which took home ‘Best Adult Contemporary Album’ at the ARIA Awards, gained widespread acclaim from the likes of Forbes and The Guardian and ignited a rapturous world tour. The ARIA Hall-of-Famer’s storied career reads like a movie script from their impressive sync history, which includes a 2023 #1 Billboard ‘Top Tv Songs’. The stage is set for what will be a historic 2024, with the release of 8th full length studio album, Gravity Stairs - OUT NOW

Crowded House

As Crowded House’s concert at Bluesfest Byron Bay beckons, B is also for Better Be Home Soon, today’s featured song in this second round of the Neil Finn Songbook A-Z.

It was the first single released ahead of the Temple of Low Men album, and a surprise choice to many, with its slower tempo and vaguely country style.

“There was a lot of anticipation for that song. The record company really wanted to go for that 100 miles an hour, so we let them. In one way it’s kind of strange, because it’s not that representative of the rest of the record. The good thing about it - it shows us that more than any other song probably - is it’s the song in a Crowded House set that people can sing from beginning to end very easily, in a group context, community singing and all that. That’s always been a pretty important thing for us.” - Neil Finn in 1988.

Crowded House

I am writing today to express my undying love and gratitude for the life of my friend, Paul Newell Hester. He brought joy, inspiration and laughter to our Finn Family. He was a musical force, the energy that poured forth from our stage that which held us enthralled, our sound formed around the swing and swagger of his rhythm.

For all of this, I’m grateful. The loss and the distance still hurts. I miss you, my dear friend.

My love and thoughts are with his family today.

Crowded House

The final single released from Together Alone in 1994 (or was it 1995?) was the title track, backed by Kare Kare.

“It was a memorable day when we did ‘Together Alone’. It was an idea that came about during the recording of the album that we should try and write something to draw in what we saw as a few strands of New Zealand music. A Māori singing group was a pretty central part of the New Zealand experience. I was also very fond of brass bands when I grew up because they used to play on the back of trucks at Christmas time and come around. It was a sound I loved. The log drummers was something I’d become aware of only really in that period, although it’s old as the hills. We thought we’d unite them all and wrote a song based around that idea. Got together with Bub Wehi from Te Waka Huia, the Māori group in West Auckland. I gave him the idea of what the song should be about and he wrote some lyrics. So it was well conceived and I think it was a beautiful ending to the record.”- Neil Finn, 2016

Crowded House

Due to illness in the band, Crowded House sadly won’t be able to perform in Cologne at Live Music Hall tonight as planned. We were so excited to play for you, and it’s disappointing to cancel on such short notice.

Refunds are available at the point of purchase—please contact your ticket vendor for details.

Thank you for your understanding. We hope to be back in Cologne soon!
