Mexico Relocation Guide
I have contacted several Mexican consulates and a couple of them have replied.... This is what they said:
Solvency requirements have not changed for 2026 yet. They remain:
Permanent Visa (for retired persons):
Invested Funds: Average monthly balance of $288,061.75 USD (12 months of statements) per person.
Monthly Income: Pension or social security deposits of at least $7,201.54 USD (6 months of statements) per person.
Temporary Visa:
Monthly Income: Over $4,320.93 USD per person + $1,440.31 USD per family member (6 months of statements).
Investment/Savings: Over $72,015.44 USD per person + $1,440.31 USD per family member (12 months of statements).
I have also noticed a trend that a couple of consulates are currently NOT making new appointments for residency visas. The appointments they are taking right now were made in 2025.
I suspect because they are still waiting to hash out their solvency requirements for 2026.
Which again, seems they will move to UMAs and a new formula.
If they apply UMAs, then the requirements would stay about the same in 2026 as they were in 2025. I will continue to monitor this along with my network of amazing vetted facilitators.
But we can always use YOUR HELP. If you have been in touch with any consulate this year and they have given you 2026 information that varies from the above, please email me- info@mexicorelocationguide.com
We are working behind the scenes to get you the most up to date information. When I have more updates on the actual numbers, I will email them to my newsletter first.

🛑Despite what some “experts” have posted about the income requirements going up in 2026, the truth is that the consulates haven’t posted their requirements yet. 😑
I’ve been getting screenshots of some facilitators saying the 2026 requirements are $5250 a month for a temporary residency. But the truth is this isn’t verified info. 🙈
It’s based on historical info that the consulates have always used Mexico minimum wage in their formulas.
But the consulates have received new orders to use a different formula and a different solvency requirement moving forward. ✅
We are still waiting to see if the consulates will post the UMA requirements for 2026 or if they will continue to use minimum wage. Which has not been verified yet 😀. In the next week or so we will get some verified info 👍🏼

today January 6th is Dia de Los Reyes Magos, a magical day that brings joy and excitement to children in Mexico, much like a second Christmas for many kids🎁
We also celebrate it by eating a Rosca De Reyes- a sweet fruit cake with a hidden baby Jesus inside. Whoever gets the slice with the baby Jesus must throw a party on February 2nd- Dia de la Candelaria.
Many will get gifts from the Reyes magos - the 3 wise kings. Discover more about the country's significant holidays on our site mexicorelocationguide.com/holidays-in-mexico/

If you own property in Mexico, keep in mind you might get a large discount if you pay your property taxes ahead of time. Usually the first weeks of the new year, but the discount amounts vary by city.
Example of a discount in Cancun below for those who pay their "predial" or property taxes ahead of time.

Happy New Year, everyone! 🥳 As we kick off 2026, there are some major changes at the INM (Immigration) offices that you need to know about.
✅ The 2026 Fees are LIVE- The Mexican government has officially updated the fees for residency cards, renewals, canje, and tourist permits (FMM). 👉 See the full 2026 fee breakdown here: mexicorelocationguide.com/immigration-fees-in.../
⚠️ Note: You pay the 2026 rate if you are finalizing your process in Mexico this year, even if your consulate pre-approved you in 2025.
✅ The 50% Discount (The Truth!) There IS a new 50% discount on these fees, but only for specific groups: ⭐ Students ⭐ Family Unity (applying through a family member) ❌ CRITICAL: There is currently NO 50% discount for people over 60, despite what some rumors say.
✅ Renewing? Good news! If you are already a resident and just renewing your visa (or switching from Temporary to Permanent), you generally do not need to prove your income again. You just pay the new 2026 fees.
✅ What about Income Requirements (Solvency)? This is where it gets tricky! The income/savings amounts required to qualify for a visa are set by each individual consulate.
These are being updated right now for 2026.
I am currently contacting consulates across the globe to get the real, confirmed numbers as I do every year
I’ll post the updates here the second I have them! Check this page for the latest verified solvency numbers: 👉 mexicorelocationguide.com/visa-requirements-for...…
📢 Can you help? If you have an appointment with a Mexican Consulate in the next few days and they give you their confirmed 2026 solvency requirements, please send them to me at info@mexicorelocationguide.com! Your real-world data helps the whole community.
Stay tuned for more updates in the next week! 🇲🇽✨

Quirky underwear tradition in Mexico today.
Did you know that in Mexico the color of underwear you choose to put on New Year's eve matters?
Let me explain.
Us Mexicans along with other Latin Americans tend to be superstitious. We will do anything to improve our chances of having a better year or other life event.
There are a lot of rituals in Mexico such as lighting candles with specific saints on them. Exchanging small coins in each others hands when you get married. Never putting your purse on the ground. Eating 12 grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve for good luck each month.
And even the way you pass the salt matters.
But since today is New Year's Eve, I want to focus on the ritual that is the color of your underwear. It's a funny one, but you better believe the sales are through the roof for yellow and red underwear this year.
This is why:
Red
It is the most popular color by most people who seek to enter the New Year with luck, especially in love and passion, since it is said that wearing red panties on New Year's Eve helps that love and desire are not lacking in the coming year.
Yellow
Behind the red, yellow follows in preference and this is because its meaning is prosperity, money and abundance; although (in old fashioned tradition) these must be given away, so that the person has a lot of joy and abundance.
Green
The color green is used to attract health, calm and a lot of protection. So if you want to spend a healthy year, we recommend opting for green, according to tradition.
White
White panties are for peace, wearing white panties to receive the new year are supposed to attract peace, hope and harmony.
Blue
Blue is for projects, and also goes hand in hand with balance and promotes that the next projects are realized, in addition to promoting better union and emotions.
I know this is a quirky post. And I hope it got a chuckle out of you and that you feel that much closer to understanding this tradition.
I know when I was growing up, my single aunts would spend a whole day picking out the best red underwear that year. Haha 😅 But, even though it may be a silly tradition, I can also say each one of them got married!
Let me know... what underwear color you'll be wearing today? And whichever color it is, I hope you get exactly what you want next year! I also hope you have a safe New Year's eve.
Soon I'll be reaching out with details on my next Q&A, what I find out about income requirements across different consulates for 2026, and more realistic cost of living examples and videos!

It’s Aguinaldo Time! And It’s due by December 20th
Did you know that Mexican law (Article 87 of the Ley Federal de Trabajo) requires employers to give a year-end payment called Aguinaldo? 🤔
It’s a must! Here’s the scoop:
💰 What is Aguinaldo?
It’s a mandatory benefit, equal to 15 days of regular pay, and it’s due before December 20th every year. 🎅🎄 Whether your employee works full-time, part-time, or even just a few hours a week, they’re entitled to it!
