On the ground in Tijuana this week, I spent some time with an Army veteran who lives along the southern border. He owns a local gun store, but in his spare time he hikes the desert collecting what illegal migrants leave behind: phones, passports, driver's licenses, and credit cards.
He says many migrants discard these items immediately after crossing, raising questions about why they're trying to conceal their identities. By accessing some of the abandoned phones, he says he's uncovered information that has helped identify individuals, including people who are wanted terrorists.
