The Dead Calibers Archive: A historical look at various calibers and projects through out history. From little known wildcats to popular loadings, we are "Documenting the Pursuit of Ballistic Perfection" from the beginning of black powder firearms to today.

We want to create a productive, informed, and forward looking movement to have a positive impact on the 2A, both in the Digital Space and Real World.

We are not a FFL & do NOT sell firearms, ammo, or accessories or allow private sales

Not so much an ad but almost a list of sales pitch ideas, but digging into the copy we find that even in the early 1900's you have some notable uses such as "home defense" and "automobilist" (read self defense while traveling).

This table came from the March 1979 issue of Guns & Ammo magazine. What's interesting is CartridgeCollectors.net has the .357/44 Bobcat as a child of the 80's but I've found primary sources such as this from the late 70's.

I love this vintage Colt at, not only for being a vintage Colt ad, but it paints a picture of something. We've boiled down marketing today to feature and benefit. Cold and lifeless or not even about the product.

Hat tip to @jason_analco on X for tracking this down.

Ted Rowe (center) was the president of SIG Arms when the .357 SIG was developed and ultimately played a part in greenlighting the project.
