The Massive Adventure
We are absolutely flabbergasted, gobsmacked, and thoroughly humbled that over 40,000 views have floated their way to our little YouTube channel!
When we first picked up a camera (the wrong way round, probably) and started rambling on about narrowboat life, we thought maybe five people—Hi Kids!—might watch.
Never in our wildest dreams did we think our mildly chaotic, often incoherent, and occasionally crisps-muffled commentary would be watched by so many of you lovely humans.
We’ve loved every moment of learning how to film, edit, tell our story (and not drop the phone in the canal(fail)). It’s been a crash course in video-making, but it’s also been a joy—and we’re genuinely grateful we’ve got this ever-growing log of memories to look back on in years to come.
▶️🔴We need your help
We’ve got a little favour to ask.
We’ve recently discovered that only 20% of the lovely folks watching our videos have actually hit that magical little Subscribe button! That means 80% of you are sneaking in, watching from the shadows like canal-dwelling ninjas, and slipping away again without so much as a digital handshake. 😄
So here’s the deal:✅ Subscribing is totally free✅ It’s like a friendly “follow”✅ No bank details, no fine print, a blood sample, or your mother’s maiden name, no golden rivets (sorry Royal Navy veterans—we know that trick)
✅ You won’t get spammed or signed up to anything weird
✅ And it helps us a LOT—YouTube is more likely to show our videos to others when it sees you're enjoying them, when you subscribe and is more likely to share our videos with other lovely people
PLUS—and this is very important—Rufus gets a treat for every new subscriber.Yes. A real biscuit. He’s monitoring the situation closely. 🐾🍪
💬 Your Youtube comments mean the world to us—they make us laugh, think, and occasionally blush. But most importantly, they help us know what we’re doing right and where we can improve (like adding more Rufus, clearly). Keep them coming—we really do read and appreciate every single one.
💡 Oh, and while you’re at it… please do watch to the end of our videos if you can. It really helps our retention stats, and means YouTube thinks we’re slightly less rubbish than we sometimes feel.
So if you’ve enjoyed our ramblings, Rufus’ shenanigans, our attempts at cooking, our wobbly camera work, and the ever-unfolding adventure of life aboard The Massive—👆 Just click that red button (you know the one), and you’re in. You can even hit the little bell if you fancy being notified when we upload new episodes—it’s like getting a friendly nudge when something new is ready to watch.
Thanks again for joining us—whether you’ve been here since the first smoky jacket potato or just hopped aboard—we’re so glad to have you along for the ride.
Here’s to more misadventures, more memories, and definitely more biscuits.
With gratitude, laughter, and the occasional splash,Cari, Andy & Rufus— still afloat, still surprised, still very much winging it.

We've been mostly acting as the unpaid staff of an exclusive swan bistro. They’ve taken to banging on the kitchen window like disgruntled customers demanding service. Honestly, if this keeps up, I’ll have to start taking reservations and offering a bread roll pairing menu

🎄 Merry Christmas, Everyone! 🎄
Well, this wasn’t exactly the Christmas we’d planned!
The weekend winds decided to throw a spanner in the works, so we had to abandon ship (well, leave the boat at the marina) and jump in the car to make it home for the festivities.
Let’s just say it wasn’t the grand nautical arrival we’d imagined, but hey, at least we made it!
On a separate note, a massive THANK YOU to our youngest daughter for coming to the rescue mid-week with an entirely different car journey to help us handle some unexpected family matters. Apparently, years of playing “mum and dad taxi” finally earned us a favor. Don’t worry – we’re keeping score!
This has been our first year on the water, and wow, what a whirlwind it’s been!
We’ve been fumbling with ropes, figuring out how boats actually work, and learning how to point cameras at things without dropping them overboard.
We’ll be heading back to the massive (aka our boat!) in just a few days and onwards to our New Year destination. It feels like the perfect way to kick off another year of adventures – and hopefully smoother sailing!
Speaking of the boat… anyone fancy a boat tour? Let us know in the comments if that’s something you’d like to see – or if there’s anything else you’d love us to cover. This channel started as a personal video log, but we’d love to hear your ideas for future videos.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and smooth sailing into the New Year. Thanks for being part of our journey – we can’t wait to share what’s next!
Cheers Aye,
Andy, Cari & Rufus the dog
