Throwback to when I passed my CCRN in February 2018! I was in my first trimester and I remember feeling sooo nauseas during my exam. Luckily, I passed and was super stoked! Having my CCRN gives me a sense of pride an accomplishment. Letters behind your name don’t define the nurse you are....but hey, they are pretty cool, huh?!

I was a 4.0 nursing student. I worked my ass off. I got the grades. I volunteered. I took on every challenge and opportunity. I passed my NCLEX in 75 questions.

I remember the first time a doctor yelled at me in front of a patient. I was terrified. Embarrassed. And did I say anything back? Nope. I was too scared. I didn’t stand up for myself. I didn’t report it. I just sunk back and secretly wanted to cry. I had taken care of this patient 5 days in a row and had formed a good relationship with him and his wife. After the doctor left the room, the patient’s wife said, “I am sorry he treated you like that.” And what did I say??? “He must be having a bad day.” .

Having a bad day DOES NOT excuse someone’s abusive behaviors. Afterwards, I thought of a million things I wish I would’ve said to the doctor. But why didn’t I have the balls to stand up for myself?!? Probably because I was caught off guard and didn’t have the knowledge or resources to professionally handle these situations. .
.
