When our child spends too much time on the phone, our first instinct is often to focus on screen time:
“Put the phone away.”
“Stop scrolling.”
“Come sit with us.”
But the phone may not be the real problem.
For today’s children, the phone can be where their friends are, where they learn, communicate, explore and spend time. Taking it away can sometimes make them feel disconnected from their world.
So perhaps the question isn't only, “How do I reduce my child’s screen time?”
It could also be, “What can we create at home that makes my child want to put the screen aside and be with us?”

A child who feels seen grows into an adult who feels worthy.
Many parents believe love is shown through providing the best education, opportunities, and comforts. While those things matter, what children remember most is how they felt at home.
Did they feel heard when they were upset?
Did they feel safe making mistakes?
Did they feel accepted even when they weren't perfect?
A home where children feel seen is not a perfect home. It's a home where emotions are welcomed, conversations happen without fear, and connection matters more than perfection.
The small moments of listening, validating, and showing up consistently create the emotional foundation your child will carry for life.
As parents, we cannot be perfect every day. But we can strive to create a space where our children know:
"I am loved, understood, and safe here."
