At the USA Cycling Endurance Mountain Bike National Championship held in Roanoke in July, visitors generated $2.6 million in direct spending. My story breaks that impact down and shows how proceeds are being reinvested into trail building and maintenance. I also spoke to the owner of Roanoke Mountain Adventure shop to gain insight on how this event has affected his business.
Roanoke regained regular Amtrak service in 2017, and state projects now aim to extend the Northeast Regional to Christiansburg. In this report I show how your tax dollars are being spent, sit down with a local resident to hear their thoughts, and explain simple ways you can get involved.

Jayn Avery became part of that creative development and makes handmade pottery in her mountain studio, where she demonstrates her signature gathered planters and incorporates repurposed lace. She reflects on how her art connects with the region and helped shape her grounded artistry and sustainable values.
