BREAKING: Kohei Ikeda “Nakatsu” has officially left Bandai Namco after nearly 20 years with the company.
For longtime TEKKEN fans, this is genuinely the end of an era.
Nakatsu played a major role during some of the franchise’s biggest years — helping guide TEKKEN through the TEKKEN 7 era, the global esports explosion, and eventually the transition into TEKKEN 8 as Game Director.
He originally entered game development during the Soulcalibur IV period before later becoming one of the key leaders behind modern TEKKEN.
In his official message, Nakatsu thanked the global Fighting Game Community, reflecting on both the celebrations and criticism that helped push the Tekken Project forward over the years.
What makes this announcement especially surprising is the timing.
Recently, TEKKEN 8 finally seemed to regain strong momentum:
Naturally, speculation has already started inside the FGC.
Some fans are wondering whether Nakatsu could eventually join Harada’s newly announced VS Studio with SNK — while others believe he may simply be moving toward an entirely different challenge after spending nearly two decades at Bandai Namco.
At this moment, nothing has been officially confirmed regarding his future plans.

What makes this announcement especially surprising is the timing.
Recently, TEKKEN 8 finally seemed to regain strong momentum:
• Positive patch reception
• Stronger community sentiment
• Kunimitsu hype
• Yujiro Hanma reveal
• TEKKEN discussions becoming positive again
And now suddenly… this.
One thing is certain though:
Nakatsu helped shape modern TEKKEN.
Thank you for the battles.
