TONY BROOKS | GOLF OUTLAW (formerly Lion Golf Academy)

Welcome to the home of Going Pro at 50.

I'm Tony Brooks, a PGA Master Professional, golf academy owner, and former +2.8 handicap trying to compete at a high level again...at 50 years old.

This channel started as an extension of Lion Golf Academy and somewhere along the way, it became something else.

No fake golf personality.
No sponsors controlling opinions.

Just a guy in T shirts, sneakers, sunglasses, junior length clubs, and a belief that most golfers have been taught the wrong way for years.

Along the way you'll find:

⛳ Golf improvement based on cause and effect, not swing positions
🎥 Course vlogs and on-course experiments
🎙️ Honest golf commentary and industry discussion
🏆 The Going Pro at 50 journey
😎 A little humor and fun along the way

The Golf Outlaw

After reading YouTube comments for the past few months, I've come to a decision. There are a lot of golfers out there who still need help but do not have someone to trust.

So I started a Golf Outlaw Reddit community.

Post your swings.
Post your ball flight.
Post your equipment experiments.
Post your "I shot 97 and have no idea why" stories.

I'll jump in when I can and offer some free help, and hopefully the community can become a place where golfers learn from each other without being sold a miracle cure every five minutes.

No swing methods.
No guru worship.
No magic positions.
Just golfers trying to get a little better together.

Share this with whoever you know in the golf world that needs unbiased help and thanks for the support again!

The Golf Outlaw

Quick heads up...if you noticed the channel name changed from Lion Golf Academy to The Golf Outlaw, don't worry, it's still me.

Same guy.
Same golf.
Same bad jokes.
Same opinions that get me in trouble.

Lion Golf Academy as a business isn't going anywhere.

This is just the next chapter.

Thanks for being here. 🤠⛳

Let's rename the channel together...

When I started this YouTube channel, it was mostly an extension of Lion Golf Academy.

But over the years, it has become something much bigger.

Going Pro at 50.
Golf commentary.
Course vlogs.
Experiments.
Humor.
Real Talk. Real Fun. Real Golf.

It feels like the channel has grown into its own animal, and I'm not sure "Lion Golf Academy" fully describes it anymore.

So let's have some fun...

If YOU were naming this channel today, what would you call it?

Should it stay Lion Golf Academy?

Or is there a better name that represents what this channel has become?

A lot of you asked for it… so here it comes 😂

Tomorrow’s video is all about Golf Sidekick, why so many golfers are connecting with his message right now, and why golfers may be completely exhausted with modern golf instruction.

This one was actually really fun to make.

Quick survey for the “Going Pro at 50” Friday videos.

As many of you know, the desert heat is suddenly jumping into the 110’s this week and will probably stay there until around October. Because of that, we may be limited to filming only (9) holes on some Fridays depending on conditions.

What type of Friday videos would you rather watch?

A deeper video about my 17-month goals, the path to trying to qualify, and why some of what I’m doing may go against what the golf industry tells you to do.

Appreciate all the support on this journey so far. The feedback has honestly helped shape this series more than you know.

Tomorrow at 2:00PM our weekly on course video goes up! What a day...let me just say I am LOVING the adult/junior clubs and the new HEAVY putter I built. It is a long video coming in at 28 minutes, but I hope you will enjoy it.

The new putter build to go with the Frankenstein full set, added 75g under grip and down the grip shaft, and 90g on the head, new palm grip, and new putting motion to give this ping putter from the garage a whirl. Its 30”

Some of you have asked for a breakdown of how much distance I have lost in my new junior club setup. So I will list what I was hitting with my adult clubs vs. these us kids clubs. Keep in mind, its not really the length of club that is costing the distance loss, but rather the lofts, the junior clubs are 5 degrees weaker than my adult clubs. Every degree weaker is roughly 2-3 yards shorter. So phase 2 of my journey is to cut down my adult clubs the exact size of the junior clubs (built for 4'9" child) and compare. If it makes sense we then build out an entire new set for my tournament journey.

ADULT SPECS:
4I - 210
5I - 200
6I- 190
7I - 180
8I - 170
9I - 155
PW -140
GW - 125
LW - 90
Driver - 250-300 (all over the place) and I do not use a 3W or HYBRID

JUNIOR SPECS
4H - 185-190
5I - 170-175
6I - 165
7I - 155
8I - 145
9I - 135
PW - 125
GW - 105
LW - 90
Driver - 240-270
3W - 210

So in theory if I get these specs of the clubhead to match my current specs (loft strength) we can add 10-15 yards on each iron from this. Which would put it about 5 - 10 yards shorter then my old adult set.

Built these golf clubs somewhere between junior and adult specs…

This might either be the smartest thing I’ve done… or completely ruin my “pro at 50” plan.

Be honest… genius or terrible idea?
