I hesitated to write this post. Then after I wrote it I hesitated to post it. I'm typically a pretty logical person who keeps my emotions in check. I've had friends tell me that I'm "easy going" and I "go with the flow" well.

Right now none of that is true.

We live our lives one moment at a time, each one directing our course. Subtle movements aren't usually noticed. And we never expect to be the one who will experience a sudden and devastating change.

A little over a week ago my life was dramatically altered.
.
.
My daddy died.
.
.
It's still hard to write those words. It doesn't feel real. It hurts. It's almost impossible for me to process. I think a piece of me is broken and needs healing. To truly describe my feelings would be impossibly difficult.

.

People, grief is real and it's raw. It pulls you down with a force stronger than anything I could compare it to. I will slowly begin to adjust to this new reality, it just is going to take me a little while. But there is an amazing part: we've received SO MUCH love. I'm so grateful for family and friends who genuinely care.

Yesterday was an anniversary of sorts. Or maybe it's more accurate to say milestone. We could also go with turning point.

As of yesterday, our family of six has been living in our RV for six months. Milestone? Yes, because honestly when we first came up with this crazy idea we didn't know how long we'd stay in our tiny tin box. The open road has been calling for well over a decade and the temptation to just get lost down America's backroads was real. Turning point? For sure. We arrived home in the spring from six weeks on the road very much ready to get our farmhouse renovation complete. We certainly didn't anticipate running out of time and budget. We also didn't assume that making YouTube videos would have to be put on the back burner while the frantic pace that crept into our lives took over.

With this anniversary comes colder weather, shorter days, and tighter budgets. But, six months of portable tiny space living has given us determination. We've glimpsed the freedom available by embracing this lifestyle. It's clearer than ever how important it is to follow our plan for becoming debt free and creating a homestead where we can be self sufficient without being tied down.

Six months living in an RV. It's not something many can claim to have done. But it's also not nearly as noteworthy as I would have assumed before we began. It might be cliche, but it's true: Home is where you make it. Don't be afraid to live life 180 degrees from average.
