Forces Acting on an Object on the Plane
When an object of weight is placed on an inclined plane:
1. The weight acts vertically downward.

2. This weight is resolved into two components:

Parallel to the plane:

This component causes the object to slide down.

Perpendicular to the plane:

This component is balanced by the normal reaction from the surface
Key Ideas

The steeper the incline (larger ), the greater , so it’s harder to push up.

On a gentler slope (smaller ), the force required is less, but the distance is longer.

This shows how an inclined plane reduces effort but increases distance, keeping the work done the same overall.
