Pick Up The Mic

We celebrate four years of growth, amazing conversations, and, most importantly, picking up the mic! Therefore, sharing where Pick Up The Mic originated makes sense, as our founder & director, Jeffrey Oyinlola, explains.

"The inspiration behind Pick Up The Mic stemmed from discussions with numerous students grappling with various issues such as mental health, financial budgeting, and career advice. Despite the availability of support resources, many students were unaware of their existence or uncertain about how to make use of them. Students were also apprehensive about how they might be perceived if they chose to utilise these resources. Throughout my studies, I witnessed my friends and colleagues at university encountering similar struggles. Through conversations, campaigning, and our own experiences, we established Pick Up The Mic, ensuring that students are better equipped for university life and life thereafter. The aim was to create a space where students could learn about these resources in a comfortable and safe environment while also taking a break from the pressures of studying, exams, and job applications, allowing them to relax and discover moments of peace instead."



We'll be sharing more this week, looking over the last four years, but thank you so much for being part of our incredible journey. We wouldn't be here without your support!

It feels like just yesterday we were starting out, and now we've come so far. We are so grateful for all of you, our amazing audience, who have supported us through every step of this journey.
