* The Big Rescue: It was originally written by Turner Layton and Henry Creamer to save a failing Broadway show called So Long Letty. While the show flopped, the song became an instant smash!
* The Original "Queen": Marion Harris was the first to make it a #1 hit in 1919. She was known for her incredible ability to bridge jazz and blues styles.
* A True Shape-Shifter: It’s been recorded in almost every way imaginable—from Marion Harris's original slow, dramatic ballad to Django Reinhardt’s "smokin’ hot" uptempo swing.
