A successful joint searching operation was conducted today, 26 November 2025, by Correctional Services officials and members of the South African Police Service at Wolmaransstad Correctional Centre in the Klerksdorp Management Area. The operation then proceeded to the Schweizer-Reneke Police Station and later the Amalia Police Station holding cells.
All security protocols were strictly observed, and the operation was completed without any incidents.
Contraband items recovered included: • Extra blankets • Electric wires • A speaker • Extra offenders’ uniform • Dagga pipe
All confiscated items have been secured in line with prescribed procedures.

Department of Correctional Services (DCS) National Commissioner, Makgothi Thobakgale ran the 10km peace run at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon today, paving the way for DCS athletes participating in the marathon tomorrow.
Leading by example, and supporting DCS athletes, in this prestigious event, National Commissioner Thobakgale also congratulated Angelo Booysen, from the DCS West Coast Correctional Facility in the Western Cape, who finished 4th (29:59 finish time) in the 10km peace run.
Booysen’s outstanding performance amongst top athletes is a testament to his dedication, discipline and determination.
“Congratulations Mr Booysen on this incredible achievement. DCS celebrates your success and is proud to have you represent us on such a prestigious platform” said the National Commissioner.

A joint operation on 15 October 2025 uncovered a significant quantity of contraband at the Barberton Maximum Correctional Centre. The operation involved the Department of Correctional Services' (DCS) Emergency Support Team, the First Response Team from the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West Region, and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
During the search of ten cells and 329 offenders, officials recovered the following prohibited items:
· 10 cellphones · 13 chargers and 7 headsets · 7 SIM cards · 4 pairs of scissors · 2 sharp objects · 2 auxiliary cables · 2 sets of playing dice · 1 earpod · Cash amounting to R1,548.30
The Department will pursue disciplinary charges against any offender found in possession of these items.

• 32 x Cellphones • 04 x SIM cards • 03 x Loose batteries • 01 x Earphone • 244 x Slopes of dagga • 35 x Sachets of nyaope • 49 x Bed sheets • 09 x Chargers • 01 x Vapor device • Cash amounting to R104.00
