Today is the Feast Day of St Catherine of Alexandria, the Martyr. Why is that important? Because locals here predict the Christmas weather based on the weather today. If it's frozen then Christmas will be muddy, and vice versa. Thankfully, we're getting rain today and the snow is becoming muddy so hopefully it will be a white Christmas this year!

Just a heads up - I'll be posting my paranormal and weird subject videos on the new ‪@esotericai616‬ channel from now on. I've just moved the recent Shadow Figure video over there. This is because the algorithm doesn't understand multi-faceted personalities, only niches. There is also a distinct possibility that Carpathian Adventure channel will be getting a name change sometime soon as it has been buried by the sudden rise in financially-backed Romanian channels appearing en masse.

But, as Piaget said: "Our Nature lies in movement, complete calm is death." I'm pretty sure that if he'd survived to the Internet Age he'd have finished that statement with 'LOL'...

The Queen is dead. Long live the King.

I am currently in a state of shock. Queen Elizabeth, Queen of my grandparents, my parents, myself and my children, has died. I hope she and Prince Philip find happiness and peace in the next world. I can't imagine a Britain without the Queen. I am extremely glad that I got the chance to attend Her diamond jubilee at the Ambassador's. I missed the Queen Mother's 100th.

God save the Queen.

Hi everyone.

Apologies for not posting for a while but the situation has escalated quite rapidly. It's like having a torch/flashlight that only illuminates an arm's distance away but you can hear horrific noises in the dark beyond.

As you've probably seen or read in the media, there is currently a huge exodus of vulnerable Ukrainians underway into neighbouring western countries, Slovakia included. Yesterday I spent some time chatting with a Nigerian student who had fled the shelling in Kyiv. He, along with a hundred or so other African refugees, was bussed into my town from the nearby border. He said that a missile hit close to where he was living, so rather than go into a bunker and feel trapped, he preferred to make the journey west and get out of the country. He spent several days at the border before managing to get through. While I do feel for him, and others like him, the border guards are prioritizing children, their mothers and the elderly - not healthy young men.

In fact, all Ukrainian men are banned from leaving the country and those living abroad must return to help defend their country. One of my younger boy's best friends is an extravagant Ukrainian student who was planning to bring his parents out but now may have to return to Ukraine to fight instead. The boys in the room next to my eldest boy in his dorm/halls of residence are also Ukrainian and they may have to return to fight.

We went from being in a state of emergency due to the pandemic to a state of emergency due to the situation across the border. I've no idea why Putin is doing what he's doing, as I'm seriously surprised he's trying to take Ukraine - he would face perpetual insurrection if he does. I've no idea if he plans to continue his expansion beyond the Ukraine border.

If you've ever experienced an earthquake then you'll understand how I'm currently feeling - one day the ground is solid and stable, the next you realise it is in fact fluid and unstable. Since early 2020 it's been earthquake after earthquake...

Making and posting a video at the moment just seems out of the question. I even thought about filming the border situation with the refugees - but that just seems parasitical. I don't want to profit, in whatever way, from their pain, fear and misery, just for a handful of views. There are mothers with babies and young children who've had to leave their homes and their husbands and loved ones and escape to a foreign country, completely unsure what the future will bring. The Ukrainians are a very proud and elegant people and they're having to now rely on the charity of foreigners for their survival.

I also don't want to post a video about any other topic at the moment - about bushcraft, or prepping, the paranormal, whatever. It would just seem twee and trite when millions of people so close by are facing the utter destruction of their lives because of the insane actions of Putin.

I hope you guys (and gals) understand.

Hopefully, the situation will improve soon and the world can return to a semblance of sanity and normalcy, and those Ukrainians who have had to flee can return to a better life back home once either the Russian army has been evicted, or Putin has been removed from office. Preferably both.

I'd like to hear all your thoughts on this issue.
