The government, through the Ministry of Internal Affairs, launched today the new Building Code 2025 version, which will set new standards for building infrastructure, from citizens’ homes to government buildings.
This new code comes 8 years after the last update in 2017.

The Council of Ministers has tasked the Ministry of Justice, Youth and Community Services to work on a reward framework for sportsmen who represent Vanuatu in different sports competitions.
Prime Minister Jotham Napat said that for a long time, many sportsmen have been lifting the name of Vanuatu in sports competitions, and he said that with the idea of this Reward Framework, it will apply to every sports discipline.

Vanuatu has one of the lowest HIV rates in the Pacific, but the health sector says more work is still needed on testing and awareness to ensure people stay safe.
According to a report from the Ministry of Health, over the last five years the country has recorded 14 people who tested positive for HIV.
However, due to insufficient testing, experts warn that this number could increase if the public is afraid to get tested.

A Supreme Court conference for the constitutional case filed by the Opposition relating to the Speaker of Parliament's decision regarding the motion of no confidence lodged against Prime Minister Jotham Napat will be held on 27 November.
Opposition Leader Ismael Kalsakau, his Deputy Gracia Shadrack, and several other MPs filed the case on 18 November.
Supreme Court Registrar Joel Shemi confirmed the first respondent of case is Speaker of Parliament, Steven Felix, and the second respondent is the Republic of Vanuatu.
The motion was lodged earlier this month during the Second Ordinary Session of Parliament, but on 14 November Speaker Felix ruled it invalid, stating it failed comply with required process.
Other MPs who signed include Jay Ngwele, Hymak Anatole, Oliver Micha, Andrew Wilbur Napuat, Jessie Luo, Marc Muelsul, and Liki Allan Molvoke.

Specialised training is underway this week in Port Vila to prepare Vanuatu for future local production of Metarhizium — the most effective biological control against the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB).
CRB Coordinator Joe Pakoawia says the new laboratory is expected to be completed in the first week of December, which will allow production to begin once fully operational.
This development will reduce reliance on costly imports and help protect coconut and palm industries across the islands.

Twenty-three officers have successfully completed AFAS-accredited Fumigation and Treatment training delivered by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji. The program strengthens Vanuatu’s capacity to carry out safe, consistent, and internationally recognised biosecurity treatment procedures.
Biosecurity Vanuatu says the new skills will help protect the country’s agriculture and livestock sectors, support safe trade, and reinforce national food security. The training was supported by PHAMA Plus and PACER Plus through funding for materials, equipment, and technical assistance.
