There was a good conversation during my previous past regarding a Q&A on FB. One of the points I would like to explain is the stability of stainless steel and copper.
I have studied corrosion for years with a PhD degree and would like to share with you some of my knowledge including how to take care of your still correctly.
1, Does stainless steel contain lead?
No. Stainless steel is an alloy of iron with chromium and nickle. Lead may be used in solder which can bring the toxic element into water. The solder was used for both stainless steel and copper. Look for device without using lead solder. LETIME is using laser welding without lead.
2, Stainless steel is more chemically stable than copper especially in acidic and salt water. Many herbs make acidic hydrosols which could be more harsh on copper than stainless steel.
3, Copper becomes stable after it forms its greenish patina coating. The coating help reduce its corrosion rate afterwards. If you are using copper, don't clean off the greenish coating. If you do so, it will come back quickly.
4, Avoid high salt water with stainless steel. Even stainless steel is called rustless steel but rust can happen in high salt content water.
