Himee! This is a bit of an important and serious post. Nothing containing the "G" word so don't worry!

After today's stream, I did a lot of thinking and talking with friends about how I should go about this, should I even mention this at all. It's something that is about the biggest insecurity of my life and something that I am scared to share in fear of being bullied, ostracised, rejected, isolated, opportunities taken away from me and being hurt.
But I think it is best to finally mention this now, as my community is growing bigger and I think it's best to say it out in the open so I don't need to get upset and anxious over being vague on stream about my eye condition anymore.

The eye condition I was born with is Albinism. This not only effects my eyes, but my skin and hair. I don't want to explain here what Albinism is, so please look it up. Conditions of this vary, but I'm legally blind. I can only see 6 meters in front of me and I have the most trouble seeing small font, fine details and my eyes have trouble focusing. When I strain my eyes, I get crippling eye induced headaches where I need to close my eyes, take medicine and rest. My eyes are very sensitive so I have to be careful all the time. This is why you may hear me often mention me having headaches on stream.

This is the main reason why I struggle to read sometimes on stream. I wish it was just because of the "VTuber debuff." I miss details, I struggle with certain font sizes, have poor depth perception and eye focus. It does make me feel insecure when it gets pointed out or how I should wear glasses. I have glasses, they only help with blurriness and protecting my eyes. My eye sight cannot be fixed. This is who I am, and I had to come to terms with this at a very young age.

In school, I was called a freak, bullied and treated like I was a burden to others because I had to rely on peers to help me do basic things like read from the white board... it was traumatising, humiliating and I always questioned why was I here to suffer everyday like this. I couldn't participate in outdoor sports, I was never chosen to be in groups and I didn't have friends.
I say this because, when I started VTubing in 2021, I finally got to be someone who wasn't known as the "girl with Albinism," and when I became Aimee, I get to be a version of myself that I always longed to be. Not being judged or pitied because of my condition. My content and passion speaks for itself and I'm proud of that the most. I'm finally proud to be me.

I could go on about how much loath and self-deprecation I feel towards myself, but this post is already long and I am trying my best to try and be kinder to myself. And I don't think I could start to take those steps if it wasn't for my community and friends I've made for showing me nothing but kindness, love, support and care.

Anyway, the point of this post is to finally give an explanation as to why I struggle with my eyes on stream. I hope this is an one and done type of post. Even though I was brave in posting this, I don't want to bring it up during stream, I don't want to be given a label, treated differently, put in a box or have this define Aimee. My content should do all the talking, not my condition.
As briefly stated, I'm mentioning this now so that my community understands my struggles which can be obvious on stream, and maybe hopefully enlighten new viewers that come in that mention things like "why can't she see that," "does she need glasses," "why can't she read properly," etc. I'm sorry for putting this burden on you Aitomos.
However, just know my mods will take care of any rude comments. Curiosity and wanting to understand is totally fine, encouraged even, but time and place!

I know my strengths, but I know my weaknesses more. I don't think that is a bad thing. It's something I had to learn from a very early age the things I am able to do, and the things I can't and how can I overcome them. I cry and kick and scream when I have to ask for help, not because I'm stubborn to ask, but because I hate feeling like a burden to others. I hate causing trouble, and I hate making people go out of their way accommodating for me. So, I feel like I need to apologise for the trouble I have and will cause asking for help when I need it. I try my best not ask for help ever, but I know when it comes to streaming certain things, I will rely on my Aitomos. I'm sorry.

I'm honestly so scared and sick to my stomach with anxiety posting this. I'm so scared to wake up and be abandoned by everyone, scared my Aitomos will leave me because of this, and frightened that I won't have my safe space anymore. I know times have changed from when I grew up, and things are different now, but I can't help but think this is it for me writing this post.
I'm an extremely insecure girl and I just want a place to belong and to be the person I always wanted to be.

Anyway! I hope this doesn't change anything ;; I will keep making content I love and am proud of, I'll keep being me, and I'll keep doing my best to make my Aitomos proud!
