Had a fantastic experience in Akita Japan. I booked one of the extra charge Silversea excursions to go to a traditional Geisha tea ceremony and performance at a tea house in the heart of the city’s Senshu Park. The whole thing was calming and fascinating. It cost US$209. We were due to tour the gardens and tried but was massive thunderstorms all morning making it almost impossible to! #geisha #akita #japan

First of 8 Japanese ports on my #SilverNova trip was the northern city of Kushiro. It is best known for the sprawling marshlands and the Japanese Crane. These birds were almost extinct when a handful were found still in the marshlands and a reserve was created and the population is dramatically increasing. We also visited the city museum with history of the local people and wildlife. The tour was one of the included in the fare options. #Silversea #japan #kushiro

After 6 days at sea crossing the often bumpy Bering Sea from Alaska , 7 time changes, losing Tuesday when crossed the International Date line, have now arrived in Japan on #SilverNova. Kushiro is the first of 8 ports here. I have only been to one of them (Hiroshima) before - so lots of new places to see and experience. I really love visiting Japan! Have you been? Or on your bucket list?

There will be no live Cruise Q&A this weekend ( 30- 31 August) as I am in Japan cruising and the time zones with the schedule of excursions makes finding a time that works very challenging. There will likely be non next weekend either as will still be in Japan cruising.
