When I was in eighth grade, I showed up to school in a sequined Free People New Year’s Eve swing dress, wedge booties, and lacy white tights. It was (to put it lightly) not middle-school appropriate. My mother was mortified, but I insisted it was a serve. It was Free People, after all—the fanciest brand I’d ever snagged at TJ Maxx. It had to be good!
To my chagrin, my mom was proven right the second I saw the cool girls whipped out their iPhone 14s to post my "cringe" outfit to their snapchat stories. In retrospect, I did indeed show up to first period looking like a millennial midnight dancer who, on January 2nd, suddenly decided to pursue a career in accounting.
All this to say: I never thought anyone would actually give a shit about what I was wearing, let alone share an interest in it or not find themselves completely appalled. Your kind words about this show's "style evolution" have made that sequin-donning little girl in me so happy.
