My public comment about Utah's current "pizza" maps made it on the news! I was so nervous and I am very proud of myself. https://youtu.be/rGXVzQp1EnE?si=dneLl...
Public comment is open until October 5 and legislature votes for a map on the 6th. Now is the time to make your voice heard! Leave public comment on the maps and contact your reps to tell them which maps to support. My favorite map is the Escamilla/Owens map because it makes the most logical splits.
Utah! Time to comment on the redistricting maps! Here are some of the comments I left.
On the excellent maps provided as examples of deliberate gerrymandering, I said: "Brady Brammer's bill is a bad-faith attempt to muddy the waters surrounding the purpose of Prop 4: to end gerrymandering. Maps like this, which pass his partisan bias test, show that the test does not prevent egregious gerrymandering. Shame on our legislature for using public money to fight the public."
On the Escamilla/Owens map, I said: "I support maps like this that end gerrymandering and keep communities together while following Prop 4. We should have had a map like this since Prop 4 passed in 2018. The Utah legislator is acting with hostility toward the voters by delaying. We have waited long enough. Shame on them for using public money to fight the public."
Utah! Contact the legislature and let them know our maps should look like this map submitted by Escamilla and Owens. Urge then to support the Escamilla/Owens map.
Maps that slice Salt Lake up into four pieces like a pizza do not meet the requirements of Prop 4! They are not allowed to split up cities and municipalities.

I want to live in a world where all the funding ICE is sucking up gets spent feeding and education children instead of terrorizing them.

America is a gun cult.
It is not normal to live with this number of gun deaths.
Other countries regulate guns and ammo the way we regulate cars.
It makes them safer.
It makes them more free.
Gun deaths are a choice.

We do not exist to make billionaires richer.
It is completely unfair that how long you live depends on how rich you are in America.
People in other countries live longer because they have universal healthcare.
Enough is enough. We need to break these cycles of the rich getting richer while the poor die younger and younger.
This is not freedom.

Gun deaths are a political choice. The United States keeps choosing death.

Utah! We have to keep the pressure on to get fair maps in Utah. The legislature is being scummy again. Here's what I sent today:
Hello Senator Brammer,
Focusing on partisan symmetry is a bad faith argument that ignores the spirit of Prop 4, which was to end gerrymandering.
Many other ways to test for gerrymandering exist besides partisan symmetry and to ignore them is hostile to Utah voters.
Sincerely,
Amanda Roos
