Mind & Matter Podcast: Science, Health, Metabolism
When I worked in the marijuana industry, people made all sorts of cannabinoid gummies marketed for different effects: sleep, energy, stress, etc.
The non-THC stuff never caused a noticeable effect for me, perhaps because most products contained low amounts (~10mg) of cannabinoids.
Someone convinced me to try a Cordyceps mushroom extract gummy product recently, each with 300mg of mushroom extract.
Two of these causes a noticeable "mental energy" affect in me.
Looked into it, and there is some literature on Cordyceps affecting both exercise performance in humans and cellular ATP production in rodents.
This is the one I tried. For a limited time you can use the code TRIKOMES for a 20% discount: sporesmd.com/product/cordyceps-energy-support-mush…

Mind & Matter Podcast: Science, Health, Metabolism
Uploaded the new episode on grass vs grain-fed beef in 1080p instead of 720, as well as the one with Michael Snyder I just uploaded.
Do people notice the difference in video quality, or care?

Mind & Matter Podcast: Science, Health, Metabolism
New episode on soybean oil will release on Sunday and is available early here: mindandmatter.substack.com/p/soybean-oil-obesity-f…
It's really good. Soybean oil (high linoleic acid content) drives the following things in animals: obesity, fatty liver, microbiome dysbiosis, and gut inflammation/IBS.
As discussed in the episode, the core features of omega-6 PUFA metabolism and the key liver proteins linoleic acid affects are highly conserved not just across mammals, but even more widely. This means that these things serve critical biological functions resistant to change, and likely work in a very similar fashion across species.

My new episode about ketosis with Dominic D'Agostino is available across platforms now. Fun fact: he bought be a ribeye steak at a Florida steakhouse after we recorded.

Mind & Matter Podcast: Science, Health, Metabolism
Talking with Dr. Dominic D'Agostino in-person in Florida tomorrow. He's been on the podcast twice before to discuss various topics in metabolic health. Tomorrow, we will hit on the concept of "preferred" fuel sources (carbs vs. fats) and ketogenic therapy for brain cancer.
He's been on the podcast twice before. Check out those episodes.

NEW EPISODE: Seed Oils, Chronic Inflammation, Heart Health & Marijuana | Ganesh Halade
----------------------------
Topics Discussed:
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs): Omega-6 from seed oils like safflower and corn can convert to pro-inflammatory molecules, while omega-3s produce resolving ones; imbalance biases toward chronic inflammation.
Inflammation regulation: Acute inflammation aids healing but requires active “on” and “off” signals from lipid mediators; chronic inflammation arises from excess omega-6, delaying resolution.
Heart health & diet: High omega-6 diets worsen post-heart attack outcomes in mice by elevating pro-inflammatory lipids.
Evolution & historical context: PUFAs are essential but naturally balanced in pre-industrial diets; modern processing skews ratios, contributing to diseases, as shown in early rat experiments needing minimal fats for survival.
Aging & lifestyle factors: Excess omega-6 exacerbates inflammation in older mice; sleep, exercise, and balanced fats are crucial for metabolic health and enzyme function in processing lipids.
Cannabis & omega-6 interaction: In mice on high omega-6 diets, CBD-rich cannabis smoke reaches the heart quickly, suppresses immune response, and weakens cardiac strain, unlike in balanced-diet controls.
Genetic models: FAT-1 mice converting omega-6 to omega-3 show better healing and neuroprotection; FAT-2 mice doing the opposite exhibit liver fibrosis and metabolic issues, highlighting omega-6 excess harms.

Just throwing this out there: if anyone is interested in working with me on the following projects, please contact me:
- Managing, optimizing, and growing my YouTube channel.
- Using AI tools to manage and automate social media posting to other M&M channels.
- Using AI tools to extract, distill, and generate key information from existing M&M content.
- Scouting & vetting potential partners, and managing monetization generally.
For the right person, I'd be able to offer performance-based compensation, with additional bonuses for hitting certain benchmarks, and possibly even a more full-time, formal partnership for truly stellar performance.
M&M has gotten to the point where I just can't manage everything on my own without really cutting into my research/creative/content work.
