How Much Money is Required for Germany?

In this post I'll breakdown:

1. Before Visa Cost

2. After Visa Expenses

3. Total Cost required for Study visa (including all hidden expenses)

Let's start..

Let's divide all the expenses required into two parts.

1. Before Visa Cost

The before visa amount includes the initial expenses to apply for admission and visa.

Here is the complete breakdown of it:

- Language/ IELTS
Most universities require proof of English proficiency for which you have to take IELTS. These days it costs around 200 Euros.

- Document Attestation
The documents attestation from IBCC and HEC can cost fees of 30 Euros (including courier or travelling cost)

- Application Process
When we apply to German Universities they usually charge some application fees. If you apply through Uni-assist, it charges 75 Euros for the first application and 30 Euros for each subsequent application.

So, a total of 250 euros may be spent on the application process.

Note: This cost depends on the number of universities you apply to.

- Post Documents
Besides online applications, some universities may require you to send them physical documents.
It can cost you around 40 Euros.

- Contribution Fees
Although education in Germany is free, universities charge some contribution fees per semester which is around 250 Euros.

- Blocked Account
A total of 12,043 Euros (including Coracle fees) is required for the blocked account.
This amount will be returned to you in 12 equal monthly installments after coming to Germany.

- Visa Interview Day
On the visa interview day, you will need 75 Euros for the visa fee. Plus if you need to travel it may cost you around 25 Euros.

So on interview day, your amount spent will be around 100 Euros.

Now, if we sum up all above cost, it becomes 12,913 Euros

So, 12,913 Euros are required Before getting Visa.

----

2. After Visa Cost:
After visa cost include the spendings you need to move to Germany.

Here is the breakdown of the cost required after a visa:

- Shopping
The shopping cost depends on your personal choices. On average, you may spend around 300 euros on shopping.

- Rent + Deposit
Rent usually depends on the city. In big cities, accommodation can cost more than in smaller cities.
Also, rents have increased recently. 🥹

So, these days you will need around 400 Euros for rent and another 400 Euros for the deposit.

- Ticket Cost
The ticket to Germany varies depending on the airline you use. On average its price can be around 500 Euros.

Tip: Book your ticket early, it costs you less.

- Carry Cash
The blocked account may take around 2-3 weeks to get back into your account. So, you should carry around 1500 Euros as a cash for your initial expenses.

Now, if we sum up all after visa cost, it becomes 3,100 Euros

So, 3,100 Euros are required to come to Germany after getting Visa.

-----

3. Total Cost required for Study visa

Let's sum up both before and After the visa costs.

12,913 Euros + 3,100 = 16,013 Euros

Total Cost (Euros) = €16,013

Total Cost (PKR) ≈ 47 Lac PKR

So the total cost you need in your entire process is around 47 Lac PKR.

92% Marks but 0 Admissions.

Let me share a real story that will change the way you think about German university applications.

Two students—both had almost the same degree, the same IELTS score, and were applying for the same semester.

- One had a 3.19 CGPA (79% Marks)

- The other had a 3.71 CGPA (92% Marks)

But here’s the shocking part:

✅ The student with a 3.19 CGPA got 3 admissions.

❌ The student with a 3.71 CGPA got all rejections.

How is this possible?
The difference wasn’t in their IELTS scores, experience, or academic background—it was in how and where they applied.

Why Did the Higher CGPA 3.71 Student Fail?

Here are the mistakes, he made.

Mistake #1: Applied Only to Top-Ranked Universities

He targeted only big-city universities, ignoring great options in smaller cities.

Mistake #2: Relied Only on DAAD website

He used just one website (DAAD) to find universities, missing many good programs.

Mistake #3: Chose Highly Competitive Degrees

He picked popular programs with thousands of applicants, making admission harder.

Mistake #4: Applied to Too Few Universities

He submitted only 6-7 applications, assuming his CGPA would guarantee admission.

Mistake #5: Ignored Less Competitive but Good Universities

He didn’t explore universities with strong programs but lower competition.

Mistake #6: Overlooked Application Details

He assumed “any university would accept him” and didn’t optimize his applications.

Why Did the Lower CGPA 3.19 Student Succeed?

✔️ He applied to 14-15 universities—not just the top ones.

✔️ He looked for universities close to big cities (not just in them).

✔️ He maximized his chances by applying broadly, instead of just a few options.

✔️ He carefully checked the admission requirements and fulfilled them properly.

✔️ He focused on specialized and generalized courses with better acceptance chances.

The result? He got 3 public university admissions and is now coming to Germany.

Meanwhile, the higher CGPA student lost a semester and has to wait until the next intake.

The Biggest Lesson?

Applying to the right universities matters more than just your CGPA or IELTS score.

The best-ranked universities aren’t always the best option.

A strategic approach can make all the difference between multiple admissions and total rejection.

Need Help Choosing the Right Universities?

I see many students make the same mistake and end up wasting an entire semester.

To help you avoid this, I offer a University Shortlisting Service that:

🔹 Helps you apply strategically and assess your chances of admission at specific universities.

🔹 Finds the best courses for you based on YOUR transcript & profile details

✅ How It Works:

You Share With me:

- Your Transcript
- Your Profile details (IELTS, work experience, etc.)

I Manually:

- Shortlist 10-20 tuition-free best universities for your profile (not just DAAD listings)

- Provide direct links to courses, admission requirements, and deadlines

- Include some high-acceptance universities related to your profile

I also tell you your chances of admission at each university.

How Do I Know Your Chances of Admission?

The simple answer is: With experience.

With my team, I apply for our consultancy students daily and have already received over 400+ admission letters from German public universities.

We know exactly which universities offer the best chances based on your specific profile.

Unlike DAAD website, which doesn’t list all programs, we manually shortlist universities for you.

YouTube removed my video, by mistake.
Here is what happend.

I published the video 2 days ago.

It was a full guide about embassy NEW Visa System.

- I explained how to fill the forms.
- I explained how the new system will work.
- I explained using my dummy Personal data.

YouTube system flagged it mistakenly for violating their Terms of Service (sharing personal data).

So, they took down the video today.

I’ve contacted the YouTube team and hopefully the video will be restored soon.

* For those looking for the video:

- You can still watch it using the link in comments!
- It’s a 21-minute Full guide about NEW Visa and Appointment System.

Important Update Regarding Study Visa Appointments (Islamabad embassy only)

The Islamabad Embassy has announced a new registration system for study visas to process higher number of students. This system will go live next week.

In the meantime:
- Registrations for study visas are currently closed.
- Fast Track students who already booked their appointments will get their appointments in January and February.
- Everyone else can use the new system from next week.

Q: What will happen to Bachelor students or Master normal track students who booked their appointments already on 17th December 2024?

It's not clear in the announcement, but most probably those appointments will get CANCELLED and you will be asked to book again under new online system.

The new registration process is still unclear so please stay tuned for the next week when Embassy issues a new statement or announcement.

🚨 Bad News from Germany

As we all know, studying in Germany usually requires a blocked account.

This means we deposit the money at once, and when we're in Germany, we get this amount back in 12 equal Installments.

Until now, this amount was 11,208 euros, but there is bad news.

This amount is being increased as of September 1, 2024.

The new amount will be 11,904 euros.

Many of you might notice that this change is not published on the website of the Islamabad embassy or Karachi Consulate.

That's correct, it's not yet published in Pakistan,

But in some countries, German embassies/consulates/missions have already informed students about the upcoming amount of change.

In Pakistan, it will be published soon.

Students having appointments this July or August can go with the old amount. No change for them.

But students who will have an appointment in September 2024 or later will have to go with a new Blocked Account amount.

Although it's unfortunate that you now need more money to come to Germany, rest assured it's your own money, and you'll get it back within a year of your arrival in Germany.

Note: If you have already deposited the amount in advance and your appointment is after August then you can contact your Blocked account provider and you will be able to submit the remaining amount.

🚨 I left my job after learning 1 thing

It was a cold night in January 2022.

The time was around 11:30 pm

The temperature fell below -2 °C.

The Berlin streets were empty.

I was on my way to complete a food delivery order.

Suddenly my bicycle slipped and I fell badly.

I felt scared and completely alone.

My forehead got a little injured, and I felt a sharp pain. (attached)

It was my 3rd month in Germany.

I came to Germany with big dreams in my eyes.

But all I was doing was a food delivery job.

I hated doing this job.

I didn’t tell any of my friends or family about it.

Whenever I put on my food delivery uniform and got ready for the shift,

I saw myself in the mirror and a voice in my head echoed:

🚨 'Did you get 16 years of education for this job?’

🚨 ‘Did you leave freelancing and come to Germany for this job?’

🚨 ‘Did you come 5000 km away from your village for this job?’

I don't consider any job to be low or small

But I felt like I was being unfair to myself.

I felt like a failure every day.

But I couldn’t leave this job.

I couldn’t see the money in my blocked account running out.

I needed money:
- To chase my dreams
- To support my family
- To survive on expensive land

It was the only job I had gotten after a month of searching.

So, I ignored my little ego and kept going.

But that night changed everything.

As I fell on the cold icy ground,

I realized that I couldn't keep living like this.

I had to make the hard decision to leave this job.

My mind was made up, telling me,
'I will never do this job again. I deserve much better than this.'

So, I decided to find a job that matches my skills and ambitions.

I feared who would give me a job with 0 field experience?

But, I started applying for technical jobs and faced rejection after rejection.

Because:
❌ I didn’t know the German language
❌ I didn’t have relevant experience
❌ I didn’t have any reference

But I didn’t give up
✔ I improved my CV and LinkedIn
✔ I prepared for the interviews
✔ I learned field-related topics
✔ I completed certifications

and I applied to countless jobs.

I gave many interviews.
Some went well, some extremely bad.

After 3 months of effort, one day I got an email with an offer letter. (attached)

I was selected as an intern in IT Operations.

I was so happy and excited to start my field job in Germany.

This was my first job in office ever.

The salary was good compared to any odd job.

And the sense of satisfaction was immense.

Despite my fear, I made it through.

Hard days often teach us important lessons, and that night was no different.

My lesson was that I can do better if I try and believe in myself.

If you are planning to come to Germany,
Here is my sincere advice:

✅ Don’t waste your potential on odd jobs
✅ Focus on getting a field job from day one
✅ Believe in yourself and don't settle for less
✅ Get close to seniors who are doing field jobs
✅ Learn German, Learn German, Learn German
✅ Get field experience before coming to Germany

AND Don’t listen to seniors who are doing odd jobs for more than 6 months

Hold on to your dreams and keep pushing forward, no matter what.

Until you win!
Until you win!

“You will fail, UMAIR”

”A channel has a 0.07% chance of success on YouTube.”

It was a cold day in February 2022.

When I told my friend about starting a YouTube channel.

He advised me to focus on something more
✔️ Real
✔️ Practical
✔️ Authentic

But I replied with firm belief:
“I don’t care about the outcome. I will do it anyway.”

Fun Fact:
At that time, I knew absolutely nothing about making YouTube videos.

I had:
➡ No confidence in speaking to the camera
➡ Lots of fear in uploading my first video
➡ Zero experience in Video Editing

But, I had a mindset:
✅ To grow and get better each day
✅ To make a positive impact
✅ To learn the system

I had no idea where my YouTube journey would lead me.

Last month, We hit 100K+ Subscribers 🎉

It broke many myths for me:

- “Staying consistent will not get you results.”
↪ They lied.

- “Learning multiple skills is a waste of time.”
↪ They lied.

- “Luck Is more important than hard work.”
↪ They lied.

- “YouTube is an absolute waste of time.”
↪ They lied.

Here is what, I want you to absorb:

✅ Do what you love
✅ Be a lifelong learner
✅ Hard work can beat talent
✅ Help people, it always comes back
✅ If you really work for it, you will get it
✅ Your self-belief can change everything
✅ Show up every single day, no matter what!

P.S.
As a 100k special treat, we've something special for you.

That's a surprise and I have described it in my latest YouTube video (which will be deleted in 24 hours)
