The purpose of this community is to share new ideas and create new knowledge on things that affect all our lives in one way or another. Be it about political affairs, economic situations, gender vulnerabilities, violence and xenophobia, and worker exploitation, we aim to share ideas through effective conversations, through blogs or v-logs, that can help us understand things from an education-lens. We encourage our members to share their expressions through whatever means they have, provided they are engaging and thought-provoking.

When Children Cannot Safely Learn

What does the right to education mean when children are afraid to enter their schools, schools are attacked or destroyed, and teachers themselves face threats?

The figures are deeply concerning. GCPEA recorded at least 44 attacks on schools in Pakistan during 2024–2025, including 10 attacks on girls’ schools in 2024 and six in 2025. The UN Secretary-General has documented attacks affecting students, teachers and education personnel. In 2026, UNICEF reported at least nine attacks on schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, disrupting the education of more than 1,000 students.

But an attack on education is not only about a destroyed building.

Fear can keep children away from school. Girls may be withdrawn first. Teachers may feel unsafe. And when educators are threatened or silenced, academic freedom and critical inquiry are also undermined.

My latest Ibtidah Blog examines both dimensions: the physical protection of education and the intellectual freedom necessary for meaningful learning.

It asks: Can we truly protect the right to education if children cannot learn safely and teachers cannot teach without fear?

it is time; we need to rethink our ideas about divinity and fate--not everything can be attributed as a will of God.
Perhaps, it is the human action or the lack of it when required, is what is on test.
If you have the capacity to acquire wealth and maintain it, you surely have the capacity to contribute to the society more proactively. "Charity" does not improve "capacities" of the deprived in accessing equalizing opportunities.

Ibtidah For Education Video Series

As part of Ibtidah for Education’s Summer Experience Program, Hussain Afzal Warraich and Hassan Afzal Warraich of Ravian Current explore one of Pakistan’s most persistent challenges: the gap between the constitutional promise of education and the reality experienced by millions of children.
They are brave enough to ask this fundamental question, based on their development of an understanding through research, on why disparities and gaps persist.
If education is a constitutional right, where is the accountability for Article 25-A?
We are proud to see our young participants engage critically with questions of education, rights, policy and accountability—and to see them bring their own voices to the conversation.
