Tea team is in Xinhui, Guangdong China, tea orange capital of the world! We are working with Brother Jie, a fourth-gen orange farmer, to make our own line of organic tea oranges.
We went to the tea orange museum today - long video will be on YouTube. If you haven’t followed us on the Jesse’s Teahouse YouTube, do it now, to see all the awesome stuff coming on this trip!
Thanks to @beijing.media.network for inviting me to speak about media, comedy, and e-commerce! Had a great time meeting the people still working to bridge china and the rest of the world despite the challenges.
After the event, the owner of the awesome bar - 放羊Funyoung in Beixinqiao - gifted me this amazing fan hand-painted by her family member. The detail is excellent and I can’t wait to come back to this venue and do tea meetups / comedy shows, the beijing scene is finally getting back on its feet after COVID and I am loving to see it
Getting some 2003 Liubao for the private stash. 100g tin cost me about $100 and that is with a very hefty friend discount, but it’s worth it, pretty much impossible to get this kind of tea elsewhere
The chinese local beer scene is way improved from when i first got here in 2010 - this taishan 7 is one of my favorite new beers that is available everywhere. It’s a basic lager but the selling point is that they bottle everything fresh and guarantee the bottle is only in the restaurant for seven days. If it sits longer than that, they come back and get it, so you are basically able to guarantee it’s super fresh.
This 720ml (24 oz) chonker is 28 kuai or $4 usd, but that’s even better deal when you count no tax and no tip. There are better microbrews but in my opinion this is a good enough step up from the old days of yanjing beer with no other options
I’ve put all new purchasing on pause for a few days while we wait for some sort of return to sanity on the China tariff situation, but anything on the websites that is in stock is already in the USA and will have no tariffs.
Amongst the damage the tariffs are doing is this massive confusion 😭
Back at the tea market chilling with Yunqing! He’s been my tea guy since 2010. New 2025 pu’er just landed, enjoying some mengsong sheng. Last picture is laobanzhang sheng - didn’t get a pic of the mengsong before we made it
