A delivery driver was beaten with cutlasses and robbed before three men stole his rental vehicle after he went to meet a woman he had befriended on Instagram in Gasparillo early Monday morning.

Police said around 12:40 a.m. the 38-year-old man went to Thompson Street, Gasparillo, to meet a woman he knew only as “Nadia”.

After meeting the woman, the man accompanied her along an unlit track towards what he believed was her residence.

However, while they were walking along the track, they were approached by three men.

Two of the men were armed with cutlasses.

Police said the men ordered the woman to leave the area and instructed the man to lie face down on the ground.

TSTT has launched an independent investigation into former acting CEO Keino Cox, examining allegations of procurement breaches, governance failures, conflicts of interest, fraud, sexual harassment and retaliation.

The probe, commissioned by the TSTT board, will review Cox’s year-long tenure, including contracts involving eight companies and whether procurement processes complied with legislation and TSTT’s policies.

The investigation will also determine whether any processes were influenced, manipulated or bypassed, or whether suppliers received preferential treatment.

At the centre is a proposed TT$49 million, three-year Digital First Call Centre Solution contract involving Hummingbird Holdings Ltd.

Urgent search launched for 31-year-old woman missing since August 28

Police are making an urgent appeal for information to help locate 31-year-old Ishaana Lowtan of Petit Morne, Ste. Madeline, who has been missing since August 28.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Lowtan was last seen on August 28.

She is described as being of East Indian descent, approximately five feet four inches tall, brown in complexion and of medium build, with medium-length hair.

At the time she was last seen, Lowtan was reportedly wearing long black pants, a red hoodie and black slippers.

The TTPS is asking anyone who may have seen Lowtan or has information that could assist investigators in determining her whereabouts to come forward.

Information can be reported to the Ste. Madeline Police Station at 653-1023 or by calling 800-TIPS.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact authorities as soon as possible.

Teens Held as Guns and Ammo Found in Car

Two teenaged children were among four people arrested in Morvant on Sunday after police intercepted a car and found two firearms and a quantity of ammunition inside.

North Eastern Division (NED) Task Force officers conducted Operation Resolute Shield between 11 am and 3 pm on September 13th, 2026.

The exercise was spearheaded by W/Snr. Supt. Guy-Alleyne and Ag/Asp Taylor, coordinated by Ag/Insp Ramsingh and Sgt Martin, and supervised by Cpl Daneil.

Special attention was paid to the Morvant district namely the Second Caledonia, Vegas, Cipriani Avenue, Chinapoo and Pitch Road areas.

During the operation, officers proceeded to a location in search of a red-coloured Hyundai vehicle which was believed to have been used in a robbery earlier that day.

Upon arrival they observed the vehicle in question and also saw a brown-coloured Nissan Sentra with four (4) occupants nearby.

The occupants and their vehicle was searched and officers found and seized one (1) Smith and Wesson Revolver containing four (4) rounds of .38 ammunition and one (1) Beretta PX4 Pistol, fitted with one (1) magazine containing sixteen (16) rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The items were seized and two teenage boys ages 15 and 16, a 20-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, all of San Juan were taken into custody.

Police also seized both vehicles as part of the ongoing investigation.

IATF Arrests Two Suspects, Seizes Cannabis in NED and POSD

Two male suspects were arrested and quantities of cannabis seized during several ongoing anti-crime operations conducted in the North Eastern and Port of Spain Divisions, by personnel of the Inter-Agency Task Force, recently.

In the first incident, officers conducted an exercise between 9:30 am and 3 pm, on Saturday 12th September, 2026 in the Gonzales district.

During the exercise, they proceeded to Upper Gonzales Quarry Road, where they searched the home of a male suspect.

The searched resulted in the discovery of 11 packets containing a quantity of cannabis.

The man was arrested in connection with the find.

In a separate exercise conducted between 2 am and 8 pm, on Thursday 10th September, 2026, IATF personnel proceeded to the Morvant district, where they stopped and searched a 34-year-old male suspect for being in possession of a quantity of cannabis.

The officers also found three navy blue tactical jackets bearing Police patches while searching a bushy area in the Second Caledonia district.

The exercises were spearheaded by ACP Hazel, Snr. Supt. Ramnarine, Supt. Ramsook and ASP Singh and coordinated by Insp. Titus.

One Suspect Held, Two Firearms, Ammunition and Cannabis Seized in Weekend Exercises

One suspect was arrested and two firearms and quantities of ammunition and narcotics seized during ongoing Operation RESOLUTE Shield exercises, conducted this weekend.

In the first incident, officers of the Northern North Division, conducted an exercise between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm, on Saturday 12th September, 2026, during which they proceeded to a bushy area at Mottley Trace, Pinto Road, Arima.

There, they conducted a search which resulted in the discovery of one Beretta pistol and a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition and a quantity of cannabis.

The exercise was spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Frank, Supt. Mc Kenzie, ASP Balewa, ASP Morales, W/ASP Wilkinson, W/Insp. Ramai, Sgt. Trancoso and Cpl Dedier along with personnel of the Canine Unit and officers of the Malabar and Pinto Posts.

Meanwhile, in the South Western Division, officers conducted an anti-crime exercise around 7:45 pm, yesterday in the Point Fortin district, during which they proceeded to Salazar Trace, where they observed a 47-year-old male suspect standing on the side of the roadway.

The man is said to to have looked in the direction of the officers before running off. The officers gave chase and the man was held a short distance away.

A search resulted in the discovery of a Glock pistol with a selector attached with an extended magazine containing 19 rounds of ammunition in the suspect’s possession.

The man was arrested in connection with the find.

Investigations are ongoing into the above matters.

*Attorney Nafeesa Mohammed is appealing to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to use her upcoming United Nations visit to speak with Syrian leaders and other authorities to help repatriate the 97 T&T women and children who have been in Middle Eastern refugee camps since 2019.*

“Prime Minister, here you have an opportunity to change the course of these children’s lives,” Mohammed appealed in a statement yesterday on behalf of relatives of the 97 people.

Persad-Bissessar is expected to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 24 and 25 and deliver an address.

Among the planned engagements on the sidelines, the Government has asked Venezuela to facilitate bilateral talks between the Prime Minister and Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez, who is also attending the UNGA. The talks are intended to expand a “new era” of heightened co-operation in priority areas, following a recent meeting between the T&T and Venezuelan foreign affairs ministers.

Mohammed has been lobbying for the return of the 72 children and 25 women from the Middle Eastern refugee camps since 2019. They are surviving relatives of T&T nationals who travelled to conflict zones in the Middle East between 2012 and 2015 and joined the Islamic State terrorist group.

ISIS was defeated between 2018 and 2019, after which survivors were placed in refugee camps in Syria and Iraq. Since then, the US Central Command has urged countries to repatriate their nationals.

The PNM had started action towards repatriating the group, while the UNC promised during the election campaign to bring them home.

Attorney General John Jeremie, who heads the team appointed to handle the issue, did not respond to Guardian Media queries yesterday on the status of the matter.

However, Mohammed said: “Honourable Prime Minister, as you represent T&T at the United Nations General Assembly, we, the relatives of T&T women and children stranded in Syria, are asking you to carry their voices with you.”

“These children have waited, growing up surrounded by uncertainty and hardship, separated from relatives in T&T who continue awaiting the day they can finally hug them.”

Saying the children are innocent, Mohammed added: “They didn’t choose the decisions of the adults around them or where they were taken or where they were born. Yet they’ve spent some of the most important years of their childhood paying the price.”

“Prime Minister, T&T can change what happens next. Authorities responsible for these women and children have indicated their willingness for foreign nationals to return to their countries. What’s needed from our Government is the necessary engagement and documentation to facilitate their journey home.”

“What these children need is for someone with the power to open that door. At the United Nations General Assembly, you’ll stand among leaders and representatives of governments who can help make their return possible.

“We respectfully ask you to use that access: speak directly with the relevant representatives of Syria and other authorities involved, ask what T&T must do. Establish the necessary diplomatic contacts. Let us finally begin moving from discussing to doing.”

Mohammed added: “We’re not asking you to erase the past, simply asking you to help give these innocent children a future at home, with their families, as T&T citizens. Please use this moment at the UNGA... bring our children home.”

“Give them the chance to become doctors, teachers, entrepreneurs, tradespeople, mothers, fathers and productive T&T citizens—the chance to become known for what they become, not for where they spent their childhood.

“Years from now, these children should be able to look back and know that when T&T finally had an opportunity to reach them, their country didn’t turn away.”...

Three Arrested, Firearm and Ammunition Seized

Three men were arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized in Las Lomas over the weekend.

Between 11 pm on Saturday 12th September, 2026 and 2 am on Sunday 13th September, 2026, an intelligence-led anti-crime operation was conducted in the Las Lomas District in keeping with Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E Shield 2026.

The exercise was spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Bhagwandeen, Supt. Glodon, and Asp Hosein, coordinated by Insp. Bagoo, and supervised by Ag/Sgt Bowrin.

Based on information received, officers proceeded to Caroni South Bank Road near a bar where they searched several persons and found a Glock firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition.

A 22-year-old Piarco man and two Las Lomas men ages 24 and 25 were arrested in connection with the find.

Investigations are ongoing.

MEDIA STATEMENT DCP OPERATIONS

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is aware of the public interest and concerns surrounding the revocation of Preventive Detention Orders and the phased release of persons previously subjected to such orders.

I want to reassure the national community that the TTPS has made the necessary operational preparations to manage this transition and to maintain public safety.

Our Divisions, intelligence, investigative and operational units remain coordinated, and our policing posture continues to be guided by intelligence, evidence and the law.

There will be appropriate police visibility and targeted operational activity in areas where our assessments indicate that this is necessary. We will continue our efforts to disrupt illegal firearms, gang activity and other serious criminal threats, while protecting victims, witnesses and vulnerable communities.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service further wishes to make clear that the revocation of a Preventive Detention Order, or the release of a person held under such an order, does not of itself provide any basis for police action against that individual.

Equally, release should not be understood to mean that a matter has been brought to an end. Where a person remains the subject of an active investigation, the TTPS will continue to gather evidence and pursue that investigation to its proper conclusion, whether during the State of Emergency or after it has been lifted. Any further action will be founded on evidence and taken strictly in accordance with the law.

In every instance, officers are expected to act professionally, proportionately and with due regard for the rights of every citizen.

Our message to the public is therefore one of reassurance: remain calm, remain vigilant and continue to work with the police. If you have information concerning criminal activity or an immediate threat to public safety, please report it through the appropriate police channels.

The TTPS remains focused, prepared and committed to the safety and security of Trinidad and Tobago.

The emergency powers may change. Our responsibility to public safety does not.
