How many PlayStation Studios games do you think will be in Thursday's State of Play?

Every time I see any of these dumbass-looking heroes from Horizon: Hunters Gathering, I can hear the corporate meetings from the late 2010s and early 2020s in my head where a bunch of suits and terminally online game devs brainstormed what would look "cool" to kids and Horizon fans.
Pretty on-brand for the Jim Ryan/Hermen Hulst regime of PlayStation, though

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! Before 2025 ends, I wanted to just say thank you to everyone who has watched my videos throughout the year, joined any of the livestreams, and/or took the time to leave a comment. I particularly want to thank everyone who has been on this weird YouTube journey with me for many years now. Sometimes, I flash back to memories from the VERY early years of me screaming into my iPod nano while pacing in my living room after shutting off the Spike VGX Awards in anger or running out of patience with Watch Dogs, and it's surreal to think that some of you have been watching my stuff since those bad audio/Windows Movie Maker days. So, again, thank you to everyone who has been a part of the channel thus year and I wish you all a happy and safe new year!
Tune in tomorrow morning at 6am PST for the first video of 2026: the annual Cream of the Crop.

Hello, everyone.
Unless something major happens that I absolutely must discuss (e.g., the KH4 trailer, Fairgames getting canceled), there will be no new videos or livestreams for the next three weeks. I have some big time-consuming stuff to take care of this month, and (somewhat thankfully) there has been nothing happening in the games industry very recently that is compelling me to run to the mic and record something. Until then, take care, and I'll be back on Thanksgiving with a new video.

Hello, everyone!
Since it will be a while until the Ghost of Yotei critique, I wanted to share five gut-level impressions of my approximate 50 hours of playtime. For the record, I haven't finished the main story, but I assume I'm in the final area.
>Surprise, surprise, this game is stunning to look at. The sometimes crappy facial animation and stiff body language during cutscenes are worthy trade-offs for what I would describe as scenery porn. I didn't think I could be wowed by sights and moments of beauty I didn't already see in Ghost of Tsushima, but the screenshot button on my PS5 controller has been getting a workout. Tsushima and Yotei are in a league of their own from an art direction standpoint.
>The music is excellent. This might be a hot take, but it has a much more memorable soundtrack than Tsushima. Some of the best tracks remind me of Ennio Morricone's masterpiece soundtrack for Once Upon a Time in the West (one of my all-time favorite movies).
>The combat rocks. I've been playing on hard mode, and it's a damn fun challenge. Even after acquiring many upgrades and new weapons, the game does a great job of keeping you on your toes. Some of the regular mob enemies you can encounter in the open world will cut your ass down if you aren't careful.
>I'm a lot more mixed on the semi-non-linear approach Yotei takes with its exploration and storytelling. This approach makes exploration feel fresh and fun despite the smoke and mirrors. But it creates a strangely disjointed narrative.
>Speaking of narrative, the pacing never establishes a comfortable rhythm, even when following what I thought would make for a good golden path. I'm not invested in Atsu's story anywhere near the degree I was in Jin's, and the attempts at "emotional" moments in the main story have not landed for me. One, in particular, was meant to be disturbing and brutal, but it made me laugh because of one unnecessary addition that I thought was corny as hell. So far, the most emotionally moving part of the game was a small but meaningful ritual of love and acceptance that occurs in one of the side stories. It hit me like a truck and is far more subtle than whatever heartstrings they try to pull in the main story.
I'll have much more to share when I have put a satisfactory amount of time and progress into Ghost of Yotei, so please look for that critique later in the year.
